What can I say but what a stunning instrument. It is a contemporary strat model number 27-4400 with just 1 humbucker and single volume pot with a kahler System I locking trem fitted as standard. Such a stunning guitar with a gorgoeus tone. All for the princley sun of £155 GBP.
I am over the moon.

Very nice! I don't think I've ever seen one like that before. I too have an '86 MIJ Strat, but it looks more traditional.

Thanks, If you search the net for contemporary strat you will see they released a few versions along the theme of 1 HB and 1 Vol, 2 HB's and 1 vol / 1 tone etc. and gave them model numbers. I may still modify the pups to maybe take 5 wire jobbies so that I can series/parallel them up to get a single coil sound at the push of the pot, although I will keep the original stuff in the interest of the authentic item.
It would be nice to get a valuation mind you before I mod it.
Anyone know the likely value due to it's rarity (or not as the case may be).

It has seen quite a quiet life compared to my 87 MIJ squier which looks like a nice guitar but that has dropped (damaged paint), it has scratches and dents etc whereas this one is very good.

Do you people think guitars like this should be modded then? Like different pick ups and differnt trems etc?

Very nice. Got that Jerry Cantrell vibe to it.

Nice Strat for sure. They made 8 different Contempory Strats.

Single humbucker at bridge position with one volume control only. System I tremelo. Model no. 27-4400.

Two humbuckers with one volume and one tone control, three-way selector switch and System I tremolo. Model no.27-4200.

Looking at that list it appears that mine is the lowest of all specs and is the least found therefore would that mean it is rarer than the rest?
It would be good to find out how many of each model was made.

Production numbers are hard to find on any fender products. No matter who makes them to be sold under the name tag. I believe Fuji Gen even used one or two other companies to make enough necks for them. I seem to remember reading that in some of my reference material.

I didn't realise that. I assumed all stock was shipped by fender for assembly. It's interesting though that the MIJ stuff plays so well. I have the 86 above and the 87 MIJ squier and they both feel so good and sound amazing that its a testament to the quality control and quality of the stock back then.

No. they were all made in Japan. Fender used the other companies to make there MIJ guitars because at one time Tokia and others were making copies that were as good as any Fenders so get you competion to work for you. And a few legal issues.
