And yes, I think he's playing a strat on this one. If you listen carefully you can hear a typical "string-tree-twing" as he leans on the tremolo bar, in the middle of the solo.

You stole my thunder, brother...

Other great Billy Gibbons solos:

The solo/outtro to "Nasty Dogs & Funky Kings"
Solo in "What's Up With That" (album version)
Every minute of "Apologies to Pearly"
and of course, "Blue Jean Blues".

Forget the rest of these posers. Jeff Beck is nearly 65 when he plays in this video and listen to the bass player's solo (Tal Wilkenfield). I was elevated by this short exposition of Talent! watch any of Beck's videos and simply be prepared to be BLOWN Away!!! I don't care if you watch the Tele days w/ the Yardbirds And the LP days. However, when he slings a Stratocaster he becomes the master of the Stratocaster. I genuflect in his presence.

The guitar is a Strat plus neck W/ ebony fingerboard and an old Wilkinson LSR nut, 2-point tremelo. Probably an old Jeff beck model with noiseless pickups. My Strat Ultra is VERY similar, w/ Lace Sensors. The Second video contains silde playing without tuning to another chord.

I use the Bill Turner's Fender Hot Noiseless. Underrated pups IMHO.

Beck makes me think of Adrian Belew, but Belew, otoh, is completly nuts!!! :o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWkG576QnO4&feature=related

well this isn´t a new post. But well from time to time is great check how is the taste of everyone. well here is the idea. Which is the best solo hear until this day. Choose any style (blues, rock, jazz, etc.). and if you want an example.

well for me it´s very hard choose one i hear and love a lot. but i must say the most amazing solo i ever hear is (of course) "Confortably numb (Live)" from "Pulse" (a Fender guy with all the words).

today I have to say My Father's Eyes on Clapton's, One more Car One More Rider album...seems like when Clapton plays live he switches to a different gear and plays some crazy stuff.

I agree--with the exception of "She's Gone" I never liked any of the songs from EC's "Pilgrim" CD, but I went to see him during that tour anyway...

The soul and feeling that Babyface stripped from Slowhand's playing (with the ridiculous multiple takes, poor choice of arrangements and Protools editing) was there in abundance..."River of Tears", "My Father's Eyes", and "Circus Left Town" were all of the sudden "alive" and sounded great... :!: 8)

Another vote for Gates of Babylon by Blackmore (Rainbow).

Starts great, moves to brilliant and finishes on extraordinary. More than a few of Blackmore's later solos where he's throwing in Eastern shapes don't entirely work in the rock format, but in GOB everything is in place. Those eastern germanic gypsy scales are gob smacking and the construction is superb - the solo just has that sense of always moving upward to a final killer climax.

Incredible - must be heard..

also - Love of God/Steve Vai
Since I've Been Loving You/Jimmy Page
Hotel California?Felder & Walsh

Keith playing in Gimme Shelter is my "go to" solo, but lately I've been really digging this gem from Clapton: (it starts at about 1:55) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKBSIyK_GSE
