Al Di Meola has impeccable technique. I remember reading a quote from him a long time ago talking about picking every note, and how guys who use a lot of hammers and pulls and sweep picking were cheating lol

The live album he did with John mcglaughlan and paco delucia, and the follow up studio album are some of the tastiest playing you will ever hear.

Billy Gibbons - Sure Got Cold After the Rain Fell
from the Rio Grande Mud album.

And yes, I think he's playing a strat on this one. If you listen carefully you can hear a typical "string-tree-twing" as he leans on the tremolo bar, in the middle of the solo.

Ref last post

Listen to the "string-tree-twing":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bP37CoGIK-I
3:38 into the song.

Hehe - heard that twing before, didn't you? Out of tune from now on...

But what a bluesy solo that is.

First manufactured PRS saw the daylight in 1985. Nice looking guitars but a bit too Gibsonish for my taste.
Al's fantastic solo would obviously been even better if performed on a Stratocaster.

Again a David Gilmour fan here, but I have to say that Mark Knopfler is also one of the few who can really put a lot of emotion in his guitarsolo's!

What everyone said about Gilmour. His solos are very addicting to listen to as well as Marty Friedman's.

Either "Machine Gun" from Jimi or "Comfortably Numb".

It's very interesting to me that be was booed after that performance. One of his best. He comes back years later as a superstar and does, what I think to be one of his weakest performances, and gets raving applause.

Oh, I can't believe I forget, the solo on the Hendrix Experience's cover of the Leaves' "Hey Joe" is one of my all-time favorites!

i love fender but the first time that i hear a solo was around ´94 from a record of Blues that blow my head off...The album was "Blues Alive" by Gary Moore. The songs there were amazing...but one song touch my soul..."Story Of The Blues"...this (long...) solo was just great. thanks to this album i start to love Blues...and discover great blues singers and players.
