The reason why people haven't heard of a lot of these speed demons is that they are boring. Speed is over-rated. I can admire their technique, but what is there really to listen to? All that talent and ability wasted on bad material.

actually I have to disagree, as this guy is not just a "speed demon". He is a trained classical guitarist by origin and plays a wide wide variety of music. His group plays "World" music including rock, reggae, Latin rock, and traditional music.

The reason why most people on here wouldn't have heard of him is his group sings in Spanish and he wasn't born in America so he is a little under the radar. Otherwise he would be well known, as he is with virtually anyone who is a Latino and between the ages of 15-40. Mana is one of the more popular Latin groups in the world.

What is there to listen to? Well, if you want to take a listen to Mana: MTV Unplugged or any of their studio albums, you'll see there is plenty to listen to because these guys ROCK. Nothing boring here, unless the language barrier keeps you from seeing the talent in the case of this group.

So I have to respectfully disagree with the "speed demon", "boring" and "bad material" line.

the best solo you ever heard?

For me, it's "My Little Girl" with Clapton and John McVie (of Fleetwood Mac currently) tearing it up on the John Mayall album.

Or it could be Kenny Burrell's solo from his "Cool Cookin' album during "Well, You Needn't."

:?:

Joe Satriani's "All Alone" is up there too.

I'm really excited about Kings of Leon:

http://www.kingsofleon.com/pages/video

All the songs there are amazing, but "Use Somebody" has such a simple solo in it - like 5-6 notes just bending and blending perfectly into the backbeat.

Reminds me of a mix between U2, the Clash and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I'm into speed when it makes sense to me - the oft noted EVH, Randy Rhodes, ect.

But I love it when a guitarist can express emotion with each note within the context of the song.

Too hard to choose! Off the top of my head I'd say, Sultans of Swing and Another Brick in the Wall.

Just love the guitar-solo on the end of the song Telegraph Road by Dire Straits.. It feels so deep that it makes you sit down and enjoy the hole song and dream of playin' the same way :)

the greatest slide solo I've ever heard is Rory Gallagher's " Crest of a Wave " from his second solo album Deuce. One listen and you will be AMAZED !!! For a 23 year old to write, produce, sing and play such awesome guitar ( and other instruments ) is unbelievable.
