hmm, you know I've seen this thread for days and kept thinking I'd never heard a solo that I really thought was awesome. There's some really good/great ones out there, but they never do much for me. I'm more impressed by the song itself.

But then today I remembered the very first time I heard the guitar solo to Testaments-Practice What You Preach.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHOJVINZVR0

Solo starts at 2:10

Good solo, lotta fun to play and it really has alot of energy and excitement to it. And the crazy Em pentatonic pull offs to open strings at the very end just kicks all kinds of $@!.

The best solo i have ever heard was SRV's version of Little Wing.

talking about Testament there is two great songs with two amazing solos:

1)"The Legacy": .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEhXQtkqM-M (original)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjoLhwmE ... re=related (acoustic)

2)"Return to serenity":

lol, I was just teaching a student the 'The Legacy' solos this week. That's probably why it was on my mind.

Electric Crown and So Many Lies have some good solos too.

The last three days I have been pumping Mr Crowley by Randy Rhoads. This has got to be one of the greatest solos ever .IMHO Just the structure and choice of notes ,melody and flash it has it all, and not just one but a two for one in the classic solo department.

The acoustic guitar solo on Come Up and See Me (Make Me Smile) - it's the perfect example of a guitar solo that not only fits a song perfectly but helps define the whole structure of the song. Not there to be flash, but to be an integral part of the songwriting.

After much deliberation, I think SRV's solo on Couldn't Stand the Weather is my favourite.

Hands down, Stairway or Since I've Been Loving You... especially some of their live versions. I'm a Zephead I know :P

Bohemian Rhapsody is also near perfection!

Sergio Vallin is one of the best guitarists you've likely never heard of...
