well heres my order

custom shop > american > japanese > mexican

all are great guitars though, its just the craftsmanship and electronics and slightly better in the higher end versions... i have a deluxe players strat as well and it plays great.... i don't think theres usually a big difference between two, but it can be noticeable at times

would agree with you!! one of the best ive ever played was a 1982 Jv Squier (that my brother has) it pissed over a custom shop reissue that i owned in every way..with Fenders you can pay £500 and get a "Strat"...tho i had a Epi Les Paul for years..Then i got a Gibson Les Paul...Epi didnt come close....and they still dont now, dont get me wrong still good solid guitars for the money! but once you try or own a real Gibson its a BIG difference!!!..thats the key to Fenders success, they make great guitars all round at any price!!...and what a selection for everyone!!!

I have nine stratocasters. Four are non-American. I also have three Telecasters - one non-American. Here's the breakdown:
Two strats are late 80's Japanese and are very well made. One is a '57 reissue baby blue model with a maple neck. I put Lace sensors in it and it's a very good sounding guitar. The second is a '62 reissue with a tiger striped red finish (very cool) and a rosewood neck. The Japanese really went to great lengths to recreate the '62 by adding a green tint to the pickguard and coffee coloring to the tone and volume knobs. The stock pickups are very bright and unique - great for blues in the neck pickup position. It is really a gem of a guitar. These were about $550 each brand new.
The other non_american I have is a Mexican made 1969 reissue Thinline Telecaster (in PINK!!), and a maple neck - what a cool guitar. Really nice sound and very well made. I'm really impressed with all the non-American Fenders I have. However, I've played some Mexican models that are not so good - so standardization may have been an issue at one time. Don't know if it is now.

I have a 1990 Mexican Standard Strat. Picked it up at a pawn shop for $200.00

I put a new set of tuners on it, reset the truss rod and put a star ground inside.
Wonderful axe. It stays in tune, doesn't buzz, the pickups are clear and strong.

I gig every weekend at both clubs and weddings in Chi-Town. I wish I could find another one.
