Hi, I'm new in this forum...

I came here for help since I am planning to buy an American Fender Stratocaster.
the thing is I came across some second hand strat that might be good (didn't go and play it yet) but this guitar seems a bit weird to me.

some guy here in Israel sells a guitar he claims is a "62' reissue American Stratocaster" made back in 97'.
what's weird is that it's serial number goes like this: AMXN+6 Digits. I've checked in the product dating section and it says that it's some " California Series electric guitars and basses; 1997 and 1998". well, I don't know what it means and I wanted to ask if the seller is saying the truth and if no\yes - is this guitar considered higher\lower quality from an American standard strat?

thanks in advance,
Yaniv :)

The best way to decide is to try it out.
Does it play good?
Does it feel good?
Does it stay in tune when you give it a work out?
Is it the sound you're looking for?

Unless you want a specific model, then let these questions be your criteria.

well, of course that what really matters is the way it feels in my hands and the way it sounds. But I'm afraid that this guy is trying to sell me a guitar that is some kind of a fake since he can't even tell where it came from, all he says is that it somehow got into his hands from the US (as a private import) and it was in bad condition, he set it up well and cleaned it and now it sounds good and he is selling because he has an American standard strat that he owns for many years and even though he thinks this "reissue 62" is better.
sounds pretty weird to me BUT if it's indeed a reissue 62 it should be a hell of a guitar.
