hi, I bought my son a 2000 American Deluxe HSS and locking tremelo AND a Martin acoustic guitar for $1300. Was this a good deal? I see the locking tremelo HSS fat strat didn't last that long...dc'd in 2004... just curious. thanks. btw, my kid is nine-- he has a mim strat, an epi lp, the new hss and a martin. ha

Look at the serial numbers on the Martin. Martins usually appreciate in value.. The real test is does he like them and play them I have had four electric guitars in the last 1&1/2 years not because I am spoiled (ok I am) but I didn't find the right fit until I found the 60's reissue Lake Placid Blue. Now I have "my" Guitar. If he makes them his own then 1300 is a small investment. If they just collect dust then not.

As long as he's happy then you did well.

my son's guitar teacher found a jg45 (or something) gibson acoustic on ebay and wanted to get out of the strat and martin. my wife said "NO" but I asked my mommy (who's 71) ha.
i couldn't resist the deal. I wish I knew the martins info but he's borrowed it until the gibson comes. I feel better now. I told my son --NO MORE STUFF.
btw if you do a lameaxe search on youtube you'll see my redheaded lad.

I didn't buy my first strat til this year, I've had:

Harmony Strat rip off, a Hondo LP rip off, a Fender Squier Strat, an Ibanez RG470, Stella Folk Guitar, Talkamine acoustic, Ibanez RG-7, Ovation Celebrity, Epiphone Les Paul, Ibanez Bass SR300, and 2008 Fender Strat.

having named off all those guitars i only have the Ovation, Ibanez Bass, and my Strat remaining.

I'm 30!! your kid is 9 he has got a far better start than i did.

just remember Maple neck....always go with the maple neck

i tried to hook him up as best as I could ( I'm only a RN you know) his very first guitar was an ibanez mikro -- cool enuff, but the tuners were so awful.. 10 mins to tune, 1 min play then re-tune

maple neck? I bet there's been a lot of cyber ink spilt over that controversy...or has there... when someone says maple neck..does that include the fingerboard? the new am dlx is just so friggin smooth compared to the mim.....worth the price alone, imo

No it's because maple has a warmer tone, and only Fender really offers it, and if you are going fender why not, it stands out, all of your other guitars can have the Rosewood.
