I own (amongst others) a black Strat, with black pickguard and maple fretboard. Almost like David Gilmour's Strat, but with black knobs and PU-covers.
On the headstock it says the s/n GO1xxxx (could be G0xxxxx). According to the Fender site this would make it a Gold Strat. But it isn't gold at all. But anyway, that's possible. The question I have is the following:
It doesn't say Made in USA anywhere on the headstock. At the back of the bottom of the neck (near the body) Made in USA is engraved, with a transparant sticker with in gold Made in USA next to it. A Gold Strat is from the early eighties, did Fender mark their necks like this in those days? Or is it simply a replacement neck? The lettering on the headstock looks original...
Can anyone help me out?
This Strat does by the way play like a dream, a lot better than my Highway One (First series, 2001 according to s/n), which in turn is a lot better than all copies I played before... :twisted:

Mac,
You can try runnng your serial thru the guitar dater project website and see what they come up with... If you post pictures of your guitar it would help some of the more knowledgable individuals here identify it...

From the numbers on the picture it is:

Guitar Info
This guitar is a STRAT (Gold hardware, 2 position rotary tone switch)
made at the Fullerton Plant (Fender - Pre CBS Era), USA
in the Year(s): Circa 1980

Judging by the pics either the neck is a parts neck put on this guitar, or the hardware has been changed. Of course I could not make out all the numbers clearly so it could be something different.

G0=this guit info. I use this SN G018303

GO=a bass

Run your numbers through this site to see if it is the same info:
