OK, so I'm new here. I just read the short history of Fender here, and found out they opened the Mexico factory in 1987? Also, a closer look at the headstock on my Strat revealed a "Made in U.S.A" under the Stratocaster® logo

Welcome to the forum! Stick around awhile because it's not usually this confrontational, mostly good people helping and enjoying talking about guitars without "Mines the best" Glad you're here my friend! :) 8)

I will agree with Hopkins, and say once and for the last time..." No one has ever said that MIM was a BAD thing" Those guitars are fine.

Now I need an answer. What makes them magical and precious? What are their undisputed awesome qualities that makes them impossible for me to be without? No one talks about CIJ or MIJ's, and those are truly underrated, so I want to know this Mexican magic...what is it? Why did I make so much money fixing and adjusting them? Why did the CIJ's never end up on my bench for as much work as the MIM's? Some genius has to have the answers , casue I sure inherited the facts after people bought lots of them.

Hopkins, get ready...if someone mentions price...shoot to cripple.

Thank You! I'm a graphic designer, and have been a member of the Adobe fora for years.! This stuff is MILD compared to some of the flame wars that go on over there! :wink:

Well Pete, I've got great news for the MIM disciples! You can buy tons of them on ebay or cl all day long for $300 or less! I wonder how such a well made instrument can be had so easily and cheap to boot? I guess there are just a bunch of helpless uninformed people out there that don't know what they have and what they are worth!! :wink:

MIM = Good Cost 400.

MIA = Better Cost 1100.

Unnamed in between= Very Good Cost 750. :?: not saying :wink:

The people at Fender are not stupid and they no what guitars are worth and what and they charge according to cost to make and value. If you buy a lower cost guitar in does not meen its a bad guitar but come on it cost less for a reason. And sure most guitar companies use CNC machines now days but they dont use the same quality of wood and electronics on all there models. (Corona uses Haas CNC's)

I agree pete55+fhopkins

And I will add I own both as you no.

Some say Americans are put together better... But I prefer Mexican made... Never had a problem with one... But American made... I've had issues.

I'd buy one for my grandson or granddaughter. No problem. I'd adjust them, and get them humming as good as possible, no apologies no regrets.

Here's the difference. Mr. Hopkins owns two, I have a few around here somewhere, bits and pieces for sure. But although he owns them and is not ashamed to play them, I don't hear him drone on and on about the glory of those things. In fact, he is pragmatic about them, and declares them for exactly what they are! I've got zero problems with that.

Having said I'd buy one for a loved one doesn't mean I'd buy one for me. And most certainly wouldn't rave about it if I did. I'm not going to rave on about what I own now, so why would I do that for the MIM's?

Still no one here has told me what there is to rave about.
