Does anyone know why the new Yngwie Malmsteen "duck" replica does not have the Donald Duck sticker on the headstock? I mean after all, this is why it got the name "the duck". Perhaps it could have had something to do with legality issues from Walt Disney?

The "play loud" strat and the "duck" strat are the same guitar. You must read up on your Yngwie history my friend. My guess is probably because of some legal issue with the Walt Disney corporation. Would any of the moderators who may know someone in the custom shop have the answer to this question?

Well, now I'm all confused.

I asked a similar question on the Custom Shop forum and I was told that Play It Loud and Duck were two different guitars ... that the new high priced replica was of Play It Loud.

that thread

I guess some more web surfing is in order.

It has been called the "play loud" and "duck" guitar because the original sported both stickers. The play loud sticker was handwritten by Yngwie. There are some replica stickers on e-bay right now; I bought the donald duck one for my Yngwie strat although I wish it was just the stick on type instead of a waterslide. :D

From Yngwies website:
Quote:
Yngwie's most well-known guitar is his 1972 blond Strat, known as "Play Loud" or "The Duck" (because of the stickers on the body). Bought in Sweden when he was a teenager, this guitar has been with Yngwie from the start of his career, and is the one he has used most onstage and in the studio.

It is his most photographed guitar, and was the subject of Guitar World magazine's poster feature [photo by Anne Petty] in their August 1994 issue.

Exactly! Back to the original question: anyone know why there is no donald duck sticker? It would be very interesting to find out. Not that I have got $12,500 to go plunk down on one of these badboys!

There are several of his strats with the ferrari stickers on them. The tribute strat likely does not sport this sticker either because of copyright issues as well.
