Hi Guys:

Quick question, just bought a fender American Black deluxe maple 22 fret strat and on the back it says it is has super bullet strings part number 005-6298-000 but I can not find those strings with that number so would anynoe know which strings come with this guitar factory so I can replace Them I would think They are .010's I use .090's but these seemed very nice, any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, Rich

hi rich,

it definitely would have come with fender super bullets for strings - it's just up to you on which guage you want to use.

check them out here.

hope that's what you were looking for, if not lemme know!

Try out different gauges and see what you like best. Thicker strings will sustain longer and sound fuller, but they are also harder to fret and bend. Thinner strings are easier to fret and bend, but the notes will decay quicker. They also sound "twangier". If you don't want to buy multiple sets of strings (still the best way to figure which you like), try playing other people's guitars with varying gauges. But if you do this, try to play guitars similar to yours, because one gauge of strings might feel right on one guitar and feel completely wrong on yours.

005-6298-000 is not a standard Fender part #.
But I would have to assume that it was strung with 9-42 Super Bullets.

Specs say it should be strung with:
Fender® Super Bullets® 3250L, Nickel Plated Steel, (.009 to .042), p/n 073-3250-003

I use 11's on all my strats. I tried 10's a month r so again, and I found my fingers were bending strings when I didnt want them to. I dunno. I tried 13's cuz I figured if SRV can do it...I could.

Big mistake.

Stick with 11's.

matt, i've got a similar question regarding factory string sizing for a vg-strat. i've played it enough to be needing new strings, but i'm not sure what gauge it was "born with". once i know the size i'll know what other gauges to consider. i've searched for the gauge, but haven't been successful. any chance you could check the factory specs for me? thanks.

Just navigate the website until you find your model guitar, and then look to the right of the picture for the box that says related links. "Specs" is the second button on the right hand column.

Yeah, most stock Strats are loaded with 9's.

I find my self bying biger strings as I go on. I used to use 9s then I found 10s better but I might go to 11.

On a fender it goes to 11!

I tried to use 11's but went back to the 10's on my Clapton strat. I now use 10's on all my teles and strats. I use 11's on my archtops, which need the extra sustain. I always swap out the stock strings for either D'Addario XL's or Markley Steel Blues. The sound is so much better.
