What is best strat for blues/rock sound?

Any single coil strat will do.

For a Stevie Ray Vaughan, or other Texas blues, sound, a Strat with a rosewood fretboard and over-wound single coil pickups, like Fender's Texas Specials, would do nicely.

For an Eric Clapton blues sound, a Strat with a maple fretboard and regular single coil pickups, are what you need.

I agree, except that I found the Texas Specials are better for drive and distored sounds, and don't give as good of a clean tone as I like.

I found a happy solution using the Fat 50's pups. They can get gritty and play clean.
