TBX= treble/bass expander.

Rather than simply cutting highs (as in a standard tone pot) the TBX can either cut highs and boost lows or cut lows and boost highs.

Check out some recent Buddy Guy live recordings to get a really good idea of a Strat with a TBX circuit.

Correct, the 5 position with the detent is the 'neutral' position where neither bass nor treble is added or removed. This is where Clapton leaves his most of the time.

In practice the indent position is slightly a dumbed down tone. The real 500k pot strat tone sits somewhere between 6 & 7. On 10 its piercing 1 meg pot tone. It doesnt boost anything below 5 its a regular tone pot based on the 250k pot so it emphasises bass. It certainly has its uses. I've just rediscovered my love for the tbx.
