Both GnR and EC's versions of Knocking on Heaven's Door are pretty... tame to say the least. Now, I love Clapton, but I know people who dislike him just because of that cover.

"Jesus is Just All Right" by the Doobie Brothers.

And I think Devo saved rock music in the early 1980's. Death to big hair glam rock.

Anything and everything by the insipid Dean Reed, the so-called "Red Elvis" who defected to East Germany in 1973.

I actually own a Dean Reed album that I bought in East Berlin in 1986. It contains all of these songs:

Beatles Medley - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4K9wGTh_j0

"Kansas City" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjwL3mFW5aA

"Bad Bad Leroy Brown" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06SWpWAlBX4

"You Don't Bring Me Flowers" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY0Y78r2uvg

You can learn more about Dean Reed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Reed

Woooo, Devo is a great band. Even Mick Jagger said that was one of his favorite versions. By the way, I believe Mark Mothersbaugh used a Telecaster.

I think Devo is (are?) like liver & onions--you either like them or you don't...

I just never "got it" with them. :?:
