I have a 1978 Strat that i bought new. It has a few small nicks on the back, (no bigger than any of the letters typed in this post) but other than that, it is mint. I am wondering approximatley how uch it is worth. I don't want to sell it, as I plan on passing it on to my son when I think he is ready for it. I checked Ebay, and found some from the same year, with much worse damage, going for around $2000 and up. Can this be possible, or are they just dreaming? Mine has a sunburst body, black pick guard, knobs, and pickups, and the rock maple neck and fingerboard. I also have the black hardshell case with bright red interior, as we original Fender strap that came with it. If I knew how to post pictures I would, so if someone will tell me how, then I can show you how it looks.[/img]

If you go to the forum tee shirt contest thread, there are instructions on how to post pix here. It's quick n easy, looking forward to seeing your Strat.

Sarge,
Check out Vintage Guitar Guide or The Blue Book of Electric guitars. You can get them on Amazon.com I'd tell you but mine are at the house and I'm not there. IF I remember I'll try to post back this evening.

2007 Vintage Guitar Price Guide says $2100.00. I would like to think they have gone up but with the economy the way it is, I'm sure guitars are going to slip for a while. I have a Super mint 78/79 See thru Blonde with a unique finish that I'm into for 3k. So, I'm hoping they go up! I think in about 10-years they will be in the 4k - 5k range?

Although Ebay is for selling it quick and getting cash in a short time, I don't think you will get top dollar on Ebay. Besides there are a lot of frankenstein Strats on ebay and if you don't know what to look for you can get burned.

If you where to sell it I'm sure you could do better on a private sale.
I paid good for one and I'm sure you can find someone like me.

Thats roughly 4 times what I paid for it. DAMN!!! I'll never sell it because it has too many memories attached to it. Had to choose between it and a Les Paul Custom, and I went with the Strat. Glad I did.

If you want to see pics, send email addresses since I am unable to post directly

Sarge,

I don't think I have seen you on the Forum yet. Welcome. That s one nice Fender.

It is possible that is worth that much (I guess depends on the person buying). You can check on the Item on e-bay to see the results. How much it was actually purchaced for. I guess the questions is would someone pay $2000 bucks for it. To know for sure, I would take it to an antiques dealer who specializes in musical instruments.

Beautiful! Except for the Maple neck, that's the guitar I wanted when I bought mine in '78! I settled for a Crimson Red transparent finish, and Rosewood fingerboard. Why? it was "used" for about a month, that some kid had put on consignment in a friend's shop, and I paid about $400, with HS case!

Sarge, welcome to the Fender Forums !!

That's a BEAUTIFUL Strat!! I would hold on to it. I've never had regrets about buying a guitar. My regrets came after I sold one.

Good choice. I have sold guitars before and have regretted it a few weeks after not having them around anymore. Your son is lucky to have that guitar passed down to him. I would still take it to an Antique Dealer who specializes in musical instruments to get a quote. You may want to throw some insurance on it if it is worth a couple grand. Thanks for sharing. :D
