ok you got a point. but i say "the best" friend... a sustainer or wah are great...but for me a TS9 can give you the best sound you can get and plus make better your own personal sound/style.

Anyone used both the TS 808 and TS9? Are they very different?

Definately the DUNLOP CRYBABY WAH WAH first , then the DUNLOP FUZZ FACE. I mean look at some of the songs done with this combo,
1} SUNSHINE OF YOUR LOVE
2} VOODOO CHILE
3} Actualy alot of stuff by CREAM, HENDRIX, SRV, and CLAPTON.

i think the TS808 (the original) it´s a little hotter than the TS9. you can find people in you tube playing with both.

here´s one with both (ts808 & ts9 modify):

My answer is that a wah-wah pedal is the best friend of a Strat.

Being old school, I agree here 100%! Toss in a tube amp (preferably vintage) and you have heaven on earth. But this combination is impressive enough even with my new SCXD.
