Really I don't have a problem with being that it is free enterprise. I actually would probably buy some stuff from him if i needed something, I think it's just the thought of a brand new fender guitar being parted out, used guitars i've been doing that for years. My old tele (66 67 68) is mede from parts. I just want to see everyone elses opinion. Anyway they are worth more as parts than they are whole, they always have been. Thanks for the reply

I look at it like this. People will always need parts for their guitar because crap happens. I like true Fender parts, especially bodies and necks. Here is the breakdown:

1. Sell the body for $250
2. Sell the neck for $250
3. Sell the pups/wiring and jack for $75
4. Sell the Tremelo for $85
5. Sell the tuners for $20

Total price for parts $680

$240 profit.

I should have thought that out a long time ago.

Hello Triley8191,

I like to watch those ebay auctions,
and have been tempted by some
pretty neat offerings. One day I may
strike while the iron is hot.

Cheers.

I wondered if you could really make money that way. You would probably have to sell every part to make a profit. I've bought from STRATosphere (reliablefender), mostly cases for my guitars that came with only gig bags.

FWIW, I do the same thing with jet engines. That's what I do for a living.

Well knowing the cost on fenders if you are buying at cost, the neck and the body should cover the cost, the rest is the profit maybe make 2-300 dollars profit, which is about what you make selling a whole guitar. but used on the other hand that's where the money is. kinda like the car buisiness.

So long as the original guitars are being bought legitimately, I see no real problem with doing it.

However as soon as I heard this the first thing I thought of was guitar chop shop.
Great way to dispose of stolen axes, making them very hard to trace.

What proof do you have that you are not buying stolen goods.

I got a bit of capital left and am thinking of doing the same thing in the UK to save all the shipping costs to this part of the planet. I too was sceptical of 'the stratosphere' when i first saw it, i've since changed my mind. If fender wont supply parts easily then someone is going to monopolize on that. Even Ed Roman says 'he will buy guitars just to break em down to parts to sell'.

Ok, how about those players who have a nice strat with a broken headstock, and cannot buy a genuine replacement- even if the broken neck is sent away so Fender can make a new one- same serial#'s and all? why should players have to resort to buying unlabeled necks and thus devaluing a beloved instrument? I think its rough how a guitar designed to have replaceable parts, and you cant buy a genuine neck labeled with your time-correct shape, serial# and logo- even if you give the old one back to Fender. Good on this person for dismantling strats and selling them- its good to see someone is quick on the up-take around here
