hey guys, i would really love to have a Clear pickgaurd on my strat that would show off all the stuff the goes on in it. but i have to questions..

1. will having a clear pickgaurd effect my tone?

2. i know some people shield there pickgaurd, so is the original pickgaurd that came with my 2008 mia strat shielded with the foil and stuff, because if it is and it's necessary 2 do on the clear one, it defeats the purpose..

I hope some one is understanding.. lol

OH! AND WOULD YOU GUYS RECOMMEND IT?

It shouldn't affect your tone much if at all.

How necessary the shielding is really varies from guitar to guitar, guitar to to amp setup, and place to place. really the only way to see , for sure, how it is going to work out for you is to try it.

The amount of noise you get can vary a lot because of the wiring in the room you play in, the kinds of lighting, how much noise other instruments and other electrical gadgets or appliances around you are making. For instance I had a practice area in my living room in a duplex(basement suite was rented out too, so that's why I had it in the living room.). Most of the time my sound was sweet and quiet. but once and a while I would get crazy hum, couldn't diagnose it for the life of me. the one time I was over at the neighbors for a bit of a party, and low and behold, right directly across the dividing wall from where I had my guitar was an old TV from like the late 60's or early 70's. One of those 21" screens in a monstrosity of a wooden cabinet. It seems when that TV was on I would get all kinds of interference.

File this in the "for what it is worth" file...

I have an '04 MIM Std. This was before they came fully shielded (that started in '06). The only shielding on my '04 is a very small area on the pickguard around the pots and switch. I never got around to fully shielding it because I have never had any noise problems.
