I've noticed (here in the UK) that every live band you see on the TV use either a Telecaster or a Les Paul! It's really starting to annoy me!! :D

les pauls are all crappy poser bands use now (not dissing the les paul) becuase everyone else uses marshalls and les pauls so they just do it... its a repeating cycle.

I don't live in the U.K. (Belgium) but I Kinda think bands see guitars like fashion Items. I mean who wouldn't dream of having a les paul and a marshal full stack ( I know I surtainly do, I'd sell it and buy a kick $@! SRV signature).
But hey whateva that's just me :)

Anyone notice a lot of really good players start out on Gibsons and eventually go to Strats? Jeff Beck started out on a Tele and the a LP and finally to a Strat, Clapton did the same thing (even though I do like his playing and tone more with a LP or 335), as did many others. I've noticed there seems to be a rise in Tele use over here in the US again- I've always wanted one, but I keep going back to my Strats. I would expect that (like any sort of phase in music), the Strat will make a comeback- John Mayer seems to really be championing that revival, I think.

I used to see that too. But if you really get looking, they are there, not so much at the front man, but in the background. I see tons of bands that have backup/set musicians behind them on stage, and in studio. Some of the best players that you have never heard of. When you look at what they are playing, Fenders are king. Depending on the songs, of course, you'll see both Strats and Teles, and lately, a lot of Tele Customs and Deluxes. And, as always, the Fender Basses are king. So even tho the front man may have to have that Quilt Top LP, in the back where it is all go and less show, you will see the Fenders. In the late 60's, 70's 80's and up to now, the ideal combo was someone was playing a LP and someone was playing a Fender. They compliment themselves in a band. Salt and Pepper if you will. I don't think that the Strat needs to make a comeback, as I don't really think that it ever went away. In the UK, where Vox and Marshall are at home (both great amps) the stage is set, with pros like Pete Townshend, Syd Barrett, and David Gilmour (plays a tele too). They are pretty darn good mentors, and the Tele Vox Marshall combination sound great together, from rock to punk. So, I don't think is should annoy you, cause where the rubber hits the road, it is a Strat and Tele that is getting the work done faster, cleaner and about 10 pounds lighter! Just my 2c worth.. :)

If they can't see the value Strats bring to the game...too bad. That means there are more for those who do see the value.
