buying a new guitar and cant choose between a fender highway one stratocaster or gibson sg special. Any advice? [/u][/b]

Welcome to the forum my friend! If you do a search one the highway one or it's "fast neck" you will find all kinds of opinions on the subject. Also do a search about Fender versus Gibson and you will get the same results. Good luck!! Enjoy which ever one you buy!

Theres no way to give advice on this IMHO. They are both fine guitars but very different in feel and sound.
If your never going to use a tremolo, then maybe the SG.
If you have smallish hands, then maybe the strat (The SG tends to have a wide fretboard compared to most strats)

You should play both a lot to see what feels right and what sounds right for you.

i agree with this also. i'm a strat man and
my choice would be the strat. but everyone is differnt
and the choice is up to you.

If you want to soar with the eagle you get a strat.with a sg there is 3 sound choices,strats you have 5,,a SG does not balance well in your arms,a strat does.having a good 2 point trem is another plus,,hands down for the strat !!!!

Play them both...see which one you like best. I refuse to tell you to buy one over the other. BTW...I love my HWY 1 Stratocaster. Let us know what you decide regardless of the outcome.

How an SG and a Strat of any description ( and there's way too many of those *2) have any part of a "choice of which" debate is befuddling to say the least.

*1: oh God, that it would...

*2: please let the pain of 1000 Strat variants stop...

Hi Ewstus: I have never owned an SG and it is not my favorite look. But when I've played other people's I have certainly been impressed with the sound - uncovered humbuckers on one I tried, and soapbars on another. Also liked the feel of the neck, especially high up.

It's hardly Gibson's Strat, though: not a direct comparison. A significantly different kind of guitar.

The strat and SG each excel in their own niche. Some things you can do on an SG you can't do on a strat and vice versa. In the end, you will want both.

i think a stratocaster can get you more sounds, so i think get the strat, and if you really need the sg buy it later on,
