Some good comments here! I don't think that prices should rise by very much for the following reasons:

1) Anything that is made in house will be manufactured from existing stocks of raw materials. When these are getting low they will, obviously, order in new stock but the price of that stock should not be any higher than their last intake unless, of course, they are buying at least 6 months in advance.

2) So many companies are struggling these days that many will pitch the cost of raw materials low in order to sell as much as possible in order to survive.

3) If Fender ARE buying ahead then whatever they paid over the odds for their materials when the prices went up can be offset against the new materials they buy in as the price drops again - that is assuming that the prices went up in the first instance!!!!

4) I think that the only thing that should affect prices are the usual yearly cost increases such as rents, rates, wages, inflation etc and every business has to carry the burden of these so, in that respect, Fender will be no different but as I said in my last post, I hope that Fender are not going to bring in a sizeable increase because of the name + costs instead of just a marginal increase due to rises in costs alone!!

You forgot a huge factor, profit and greed. It's all supply and demand. Oil dropped because people stopped wasting it as badly as they used to. OPEC has cut production so the price will go up again. You can only do that for so long. As long as people are willing to pay high prices and find a need to buy a new Strat or whatever every time a new color or model comes out, the demand will be there and we'll pay the price. I haven't bought since 72. I'm happy with it. I don't feel the need for another one. Same with my LP and my other guitars. I can see owning a Strat, a Tele, Jaguar or whatever, but not a bunch of the same model. It doesn't impress me one bit. I can see an old one and mabe a new one, but I know players who own 4 or 5 Strats and don't even play outside the house! What a waste.
The demand is there. You gotta love it. :D

If you would have done a search you would have seen this topic in the Fender Lounge. I started the thread a week ago, and it is verified that prices will go up on February 1st by 25-30%.

Like scanman said feb 1st is the day. Maybe its just a ploy to get everyone to run to their local store and buy up all the old stock at current price. Prices of the road worns already reflect that increase which is why they seem insanely expensive

If fender is going to raise prices, the used market will be better, i mean one can buy a used strat deluxe for the price of a new standard, or less. I have a standard strat with 2 years and i can ask for the price i paid for it if i want to sell it. But the way economy is going its the resellers that most probably have to cut down their profit. We´ll see how it turns out.
