You know what? I never buy a guitar with resale value in mind. I buy a guitar that sounds and plays good. I don't care what it will bring in 50 years from now, that would drive me nuts constantly worrying about it. Oh my gosh the resale went down today...who cares. No one can know what something will be worth, just what it is worth to them now. As some one else said..."just play it".

Maybe when I am stupid rich I will buy guitars for "investments" but for now I will be happy with I do own.

I like that attitude right there.

No doubt the Strat will hold value if you take care of it. But getting something in hopes of it becoming collectible some day is at best a big shot in the dark. Factors already mentioned include supply (plentiful for any modern Strat), rareness (will there be nothing like today's Strats in 50 years ...) and desireability (... and if so, will anyone want an old model?).

Now add to that things like Road Worn models where a dishonest future seller could easily cloud the true age of something. Even models played by a known artist have been muddied up because promo deals, charitable causes, etc.slap a guitar in an artist's hand ... he plays one number and they certify that the guitar was factually used by that person.

So as others have said, I'd just play it and enjoy it. What becomes a collectible is nearly impossible to predict in advance.

Hendrix was a like a household name. He was just as popular in 1969 as he is now even more so. My father who is 78 knows who Hendrix is. Back then he got an enormous amount of air play, not just a fair amount. I'm 53 now and I can still remember "Purple Haze" being played constantly for years.

hendrix will ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED. dimebag.. not so much

Hendrix headlined Woodstock. That's pretty darn popular.
