Anyway, you don't want the hype to take over your stuff, it's just gonna be cost more :D

Look at the MIJ squiers, is that ridiculous or not? They were cheaper and as good as the MIA strats, alright, but now they sell for the same price or even higher... that's what the hype can do

Dude... i'd buy a brand new USA stratocaster a hundred times before paying the same price for a JV squier.

When I was younger I used to give guitar classes, the school was just over the music store and they would provide us with instruments, amps, whatever.... of course all the guitars were cheap used stuff no one wanted, and guess what ( I didn't know then ) the guitar I used was a JV stratocaster, it was even genuinely reliced!

Nobody wanted that guitar...

You have to be extra careful with internet created hype, NOTHING is as good as a MIA Stratocaster, no JV, SQ, CIJ crap compare to a USA strat IN REALITY. I've seen and tried many of those, and believe me, they are the poor man's american strat... but when you don't know, you think they're just as good for half (or twice  ) the price, but when compared side by side, you're somewhere else.

They would need to be rare. Unless it's a very limited edition guitar, chances are they won't appreciate much. It's all supply and demand. The 50's and 60's Strats had a bit more hand work than the newer guitars. Back then, there was no CNC machinery to do the work. It was fairly automated, but the variances between guitars were greater than today. The guitars are way too mass produced. I'd just play it and enjoy it.
You could always buy a new one and keep it in a case under a bed and never play it just in case.

Modern strats aren't going to accumulate much, theres just too many of them. Couple that with the multinational production lines and various price brackets. Collectors in years to come are going to keep prices down using the various models to cloud peoples opinions of the guitars. The other sad fact is that there are better strats out there than the average fender. G+L i can see being very expensive in years to come also CS guitars. Everything else will be viewed as substandard, much the same way we view the danelectro's and silvertone's of the 50's/60's now. Also i think the bottom is going to drop out of the vintage market sometime. Prices cant keep on rising the way they have been, antique furniture, clocks, watches, pottery doesnt. Guitar prices will level out as the antiques market did. The rule of thumb with anything your trying to sell is 'its only worth what somebody will pay for it'. In other words you can put any price on it you like. Whether it will sell or not is a different matter.

In my humble opinion, Dimebag was as popular when he died that Hendrix was when he died. If you went out and asked about Hendrix in 1969, even in 1973 or 1979, probably alot of people didn't know him.

But what if because of a new hype Dimebag is elevated to godly status (for any reason.... might be someone else anyway)
Although Hendrix popularity escalated after his death, he WAS well known, and actually got a fair bit of mainstream radio play.

Arguably Dimebag had a large following too, but by no means was he a 'mover' in the cultural scene, like Hendrix was. I think he will have a longstanding impact on the price of Deans, but it won't be even close what Hendrix impact was.

I really don't think any modern mass produced guitars will skyrocket in the same way. First off so many Strats roll off the assembly line now compared to the old ones. So just by virtue of scarcity the old ones have that to drive the market.

Where I see potential for price increases are in Artist Model guitars, that the individual artist had a hand in design. they tend to be low production runs, exceptional materials, and quite different from the regular production models.

Hendrix was a like a household name. He was just as popular in 1969 as he is now even more so. My father who is 78 knows who Hendrix is. Back then he got an enormous amount of air play, not just a fair amount. I'm 53 now and I can still remember "Purple Haze" being played constantly for years.

I agree with nik modern Strats will go up in value as the cost of new ones go up but I do not see them rising in great amounts do to any collectilble value there are so many out there and there are so many people buying them for there kids and a lot of them don't stick to it and you have large bunches becoming modern closet classics that will be on the market for a good price.

You know what? I never buy a guitar with resale value in mind. I buy a guitar that sounds and plays good. I don't care what it will bring in 50 years from now, that would drive me nuts constantly worrying about it. Oh my gosh the resale went down today...who cares. No one can know what something will be worth, just what it is worth to them now. As some one else said..."just play it".

Maybe when I am stupid rich I will buy guitars for "investments" but for now I will be happy with I do own.
