hey guys, i bought my beautiful white American standard stratocaster late last year, but i have noticed that the guitar case and the guitar itself have a rather " unique " smell. It is nothing stinky just a weird smell. do you guys know what it is, maybe how i can make my guitar case smell more people friendly :)

thanx in advance! :)

You can try one of those thin car inscence that hang on the rear view mirror in your case. Or even spraying cologne in your case. Personally I love that new guitar smell.

I had a wierd smelling case, it came like that brand new and made the guitars I put in it stink.... was some kind of industrial textile smell...

I don't use it anymore because it ended up making me want to throw up!

I had a case like this, on a Les Paul copy. The smell was industrial too, and sort of sickly sweet. I couldn't get rid of it either. I left the case open in the garage for over a month, and it never went away.

I had the guitar in the case when I brought it home, and it had that smell for over a day. I got the guitar from a friend, he bought it new, and said it was like that from the day he had it. I eventually threw it on the backyard bonfire, which may not have been wise considering the chemical odour.

Sadly that guitar was stolen, and I haven't seen it for over a decade now.

My Ibanez was stolen later from a house party one of my roommates at the time held, but it was returned by the guys brother 2 days later when he found out.

If someone ever steals a guitar from me he better not bring it back, cause I might have a sudden urge to break it on his head... I have so little respect for theives, it's just a visceral thing

Yeah, I shear that. But the guy who brought it back asked me not to do anything to his brother, and as a token of respect, and gratitude (that Ibanez Roadstar was my first guitar,) i kept my end of the bargain, but made it known that if that dude was ever around, I wouldn't restrain myself very hard.

I don't see anything wrong with doing that, but I'd try some Febreeze before making my axe smell like a car interior! :D

I'd try to find a place where you can air it out first. it didn't work for my old case, but it may for you. Just find a safe place you can leave it opne for an extended period of time.
