I bought a MIM Strat on Fleabay and I was thinking about swaping out the stock pups and replacing them with a set of Lace Sensors PUPS. My question is would this be a worth wild swap. Thanks~!!!!

Depends on what sound you want. I know that there was a Davis Gilmour preloaded pickguard with them in it. I have heard nothing but rave reviews on Lace Sensors.

It depends on the sound you want. I have lace pu's on a strat that I bought used and dont care for them... just not a strat sound. You might want to check out the Harmony Central reviews. Might give you some ideas.

I used to own a couple of strats a couple of years back but thing that turn me away from them was the single coil hum. I do alot of recording and putting in noise gate to quiet down the hum I loose the sound I was trying to record. I don't want to put in mini humbucker such as hot rails or any other type to avoid getting hum. Although there pups are still single coil they by claim suppose to not have all the noise of single coil. To keep the strat sound is not my completely goal but get the single coil sound without the hum.

Either I am getting old or I just don't notice the hum on my Fender(or may be my guitar). I have a HWY 1 that has that Greasebucket Circuitry in it and AlNico 3 pickups. It come stock for the HWY series. I am pretty sure you could purchace something like it for a modification for yours. You may also want to look into Dimarzio pickups. They have a cool website and has soundbytes to hear various models.

The Lace Holy Grail's are vintage sounding but hum cancelling.

i currently have Lace Hot Golds in my 2008 MIA strat with a Clapton mid boost. They will never ever leave that guitar. they are the most musical noiseless pickup that i have ever tried ( i even tried my friends kinmans and still preferred these). if you would like a sound clip of them just pm me and ill try to see what i can do after i get outta class today..

I have them, my first choice of any pickup, and they sound good on my rig.

But - I'll say that you have to have a heavier attach for them. A sissy-pick technique will not sound good with them. If you have an agressive, SRV type playing style and a good tube amp, you'll love them. Otherwise, they'll sound muddy, unfocused and you'll hate them.

They're great for very specific styles, but I don't think they're for everyone.

I've got a "90 Strat which I bought in '91 with the Lace Gold pups in her, and I that guitar is sweet sounding. It has a great clean and does dirty blues/rock very well also. I recommend the Lace pups. I'd like to get another Strat with a different Lace pup combo.

I have 91 Jeff Beck sig model and have owned it since it was new, never once have I had a hum or buzz out of it,,,that being said, the pickups are the gold lace, which sound pretty much like a strat pickup, except it dosent have as "metalic" sound, thats the only way I can describe it,and Im not talking about Metalica sounds. My other strats sound more metalic then the lace sensors, but Im still very happy with them,,,,IMHO the Jeff Beck strat is the best strat ever made, with the wilkinson roller nut and the locking tuners, the lace sensors, wow, whata axe!

What you speak of here is apparently the EMG DG-20 which does not carry Lace Sensors.

The rest of the narratives in this thread carry valuable opinions, many of which have been shared in previous posts. Interested parties should search the history for a very full review of Lace technology.

If it's noise reduction from single coils you seek - try a Suhr Silent Single Coil Backplate with your fave set of low (below 8 0hms) output pickups - just make sure the middle one is not RWRP - get two neck and a bridge (like they did when Leo first began shipping Strats) - the SSC backplate comes pre-drilled for Fender screw placement - and it will eliminate at least 80% of your 60 cycle hum, depending on how good/bad the wiring of where you are, and not degrade your true single coil tone - I did this with a Clapton Strat - the mid-boost and TBX all still worked as intended with the benefit of reduced noise and great tone from some Fat 50's (but 2 neck pu's - no RWRP in the middle needed - all positions will be quiet) You can use it on any Strat - I tried it on the Clapton because that was the Strat I owned at the time. If you search this forum and many others you'll find countless discussion on the tone merits of various stacked single coil pickups for noise reduction, and there are a lot of good ones out there from Fender and others - BUT this is the only way I've heard real noise reduction and real single coil tone from the real set of single coils that you love, all at the same time - no affiliation at all, just a satisfied owner - lets you play your fave strat in the bar with all the neon signs and not have to slam the vol knob down or put a noise gate in your chain. It really does work, it's just a big dummy coil that they figuered out how to truly maximize for guitar.
