My first to be exact.... but not new to Fender by a long shot!

So anyway, There is a 2003/2004 Mex brown sunburst color strat that I'm thinking of buying from someone I know. It comes in a Fender hardcase which makes it even nicer. The question I have is it has Johnson EMG pickups installed. Did they ever come with Strats? The guy didnt know as he bought it with them installed. I dunno... they sound good. Just wondering.... are they any good? By the way, the price he wants is $300..... not bad I suppose with the hard case.

Thanks!
Keith

I'm pretty sure that no 2003/2004 strats didn't come with EMGs. I could be wrong though.

Play it. A MIM Strat with a hard case is not a bad deal. If those EMG's are as hot as some I have heard...you may have a great deal.

Yeah, just try it (on your amp) and see for yourself if you like the sound or not...

You could put emg's on a plywood plank with a string tied on two nails and it would still sound good, :D but it destroys the sound of the guitar in my opinion, if what you want is a strat sound, they are NOT the way to go. But that's just me...you might like the sound of such pickups... What kind of music do you play?

American standard stratocasters are not that much more expensive and they are absolutely awsome, day and night compared to most mexi strats.

My local shop happened to have 3 identical strats, one mexi standard strat, one 2006 american standard and one 2008 american standard, all sunburst with maple neck... you have to see (and play) these side by side to realize the difference completely... it's just right into your face (and ears)

I just removed the active EMG pickups from my Strat.
I want the real Strat sound.

Real strat pickups ARE noisy somehow... when you start playing you think electronics do magic, but the more you get to hear pickups and real amp tones the more you tend to go back to the basics...

The tone of the gods came from noisy guitars... for the most part
