I WENT TO GC YESTERDAY AND LO AND BEHOLD THERE SET A WHOLE BUNCH OF ROAD WORD GUITARS! THEY ARE AMAZING!!! THEY ALSO HAD A CUSTOM SHOP 60s RELIC SETTING THERE BESIDE THEM, NOT A WHOLE LOT OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO. I'M STILL A LITTLE STICKER SHOCKED, I MEAN 950 FOR A MIM?????? IF YOU COVER UP THE MIM TAG ON THE BACK OF THE NECK (OR REMOVE IT) I WOULDN'T BE REMINDED OF IT EVERYDAY. MY FAV WAS THE 50'S STRAT. KILLER GUITAR RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX WITH SOME MINOR TWEEKS IT WOULD BE PERFECT. ANYONE WANNA BUY A 94 MUSTANG GT???? JUST KIDDING

i personally don't like the whole idea of pre-worn out of the box and all that custom shop relicing. why pay someone $$$ to make your instrument look like it's been to hell and back. isn't it the whole fun relicing it NATURALLY through playing gig's!!! :)

I get the appeal, I really do, but part of me resents it since I actually own some actual old guitars.

The one thing from the photos I have seen that makes them a bit lame is they all are worn idenically. I guess that unavoidable for a mass produced guitar.

OH YEAH I SEE THAT FOR SURE I MEAN I'VE GOT A REAL 66 TELE AND THOSE DON'T HOLD A CANDLE TO IT, BUT COMPARED TO SOME OF THE OTHER MODELS THEY DO PLAY EXTREMLY WELL THE FEEL IS AWSOME FOR A NEW PRODUCTION MODEL.

I agree with you edengrillz. The fun comes from actually beating it up yourself through playing gigs.

I`m a little confused as well, do the buyers of these models want people to assume they have played the hell out of them, or....
Is it like an art piece?

If I got one I think my main reason for getting it is that I wouldn't feel bad playing it as hard as I can. With a shiny new American Strat or a Custom Shop relic, I'd be scared to death to play them for fear of scratching it. So I can see a purpose for getting a pre-beat up guitar. (Although it's better when you can find one used and beat up, because then no one wants it and you can get a decent guitar for a lot less then it was worth new.)

The Road Worn guitars are the only guitars that will get "better" by hanging in a Guitar Center for months and months and played by dozens of teenagers. I wonder if the asking price goes up as they become even more reliced in-store?

But consider this....in a few years....if you decide to sell it....will somebody pay more for it because its factory abused? Or will they ask you if its a "real" vintage guitar or a "fake" vintage guitar.

All they have to do is ID the serial number and then realize its a fake, I mean "Road Worn" model and not vintage. To each his own. I'm not sold on the concept yet, but others may find the RW irresistible. We all enjoy different flavors of icecream, too.

I think for every roadworn thread and relic thread, there's always 15 variations of that answer. I'm going to have to reply back by saying that many people out there buy relic guitars especially the Japanese market whether it's a vintage or re-issue relic to have Fender warrant this move. Is this a fad? Perhaps. Would the consumer who wants a relic, but can't afford a $3500 plus custom shop relic or a vintage relic buy this? Maybe that's why Fender decided to come out with this line.

It's really interesting that you mention that.. Take a look at the Custom Shop Relics on musiciansfriend.com- several of them are being discounted marked as 'scratch and dent'!! I find that very, very funny.

That is funny. I guess some scratches and dents look more realistic than others. The wrong kind add up to a discount.

I have been wondering when we will see Road Worn Amplifiers:

Or perhaps someone already sells them?
