I am interested in some strap locks for my Strat (well and my Tele but I will post it in the other forum as well) so I don't accidentally drop it one day. However, I have not been too excited about taking out the factory strap pins for fear of stripping out the hole when installing the strap locks. I have considered the Planet Waves strap lock but don't know what effect they will have on the finish of the guitar. Please let me know what experiences you have had with strap locks on your Strat, what brand you would recommend, and installation tips? Its an alder bodied strat if it matters.

Thanks.

I use the Fender/Schaller strap locks. My 97 Am. std. Tele and my 99 Am. Std. Strat both came set up for these. Your Strat and Tele should have these strap pins on them also. There's no need to take the screws out. http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/ ... sku=420534

I have Dunlop Straploks on a couple of guitars (same principle as the Schallers). They work beautifully - but I'm not totally wild about the sticky-outness of these kindsa mechanisms.

I'd go for Gripper strap buttons - if only they made them in metal. Black nylon strap buttons? Get outta here!

I also have had good service from the Lokstrap system on that same page. The simplest and least intrusive device.

Or just use the rubber washer from the top of a bottle of Grolsch beer to do the same job! That's the cheapest - and you get to drink the beer too!

Cheers - C

My Am Dlx initially came with the Schaller/Fender straplocks but i've been using DiMarzio Straplocks for the longest time including my Ibanez guitars so i installed one for the Dlx.Now all my Strats use DiMarzio Straplocks... :D

I use Dunlop Straplocks on all my electrics. I had tried the Schaller locks, but they wouldn't fit properly on wide leather straps - especially the Fender Deluxe Wide Leather Strap

The Dunlop ones work fine on my 2 wide leather straps and on the Fender strap that came with my VG Strat.

I don't mind that the Dunlops stick out a little more - they seem to work quite well - but I don't do any wild playing/jumping, so what do I know. :P

I used Dunlop Straploks on my Strat. Don't forget to reuse the felt washer that was on the guitar originally.

I bought several sets of schaller straplocks, I bought the fender/schaller straplocks for my two fenders and the screws have the same measurements as the original screws .... the original schaller straplocks are german made and their screws are a little thicker than those of fender so I put those on my nonfender guitars and either one they are fantastic.....

I use the same one Chet. I Like them especially for the release mechanisms can not be accidentally pushed and come loose, you have to pull the release, which I believe is safer.

Thanks everyone. I bought some Schallers tonight and will put them here shortly. It looks like they will work great.

Schallers or Fender Schallers on all my guitars and straps, so any strap can fit any guitar. Plus I have one strap with a wireless pouch, so it makes it nice when changing guitars.
