Definitely EB super slinkies for me, I love the sound, no need for me to try anything else. :)

I use Ernie Ball's and they sound great. The bullets were kinda dull.

It all has to do with personal preference. I have been playing a Fender Bullet for about 5yrs and I prefer Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom. I do not believe there is a right or wrong string. It all has to do with the player. 8)

When I first got my strat I used the fender bullets but soon switched to Ernie Ball's because I personally like the feel better. They dont stay fresh for too long though. Like everyone else has said though it is personal preference.

I have been using EB 9's for about 41 years. I play them on Strats, LPs, 335's, etc.

Clapton has been playing EB 10's for many years.

Fender strings have higher tension (tensile properties of string material) in the same gauges as others. That is, a Fender 9 has higher tension than other 9s, etc., and resultantly have a different feel than most other strings.

If you like the EBs after playing them a bit, you can stick with them until EB goes out of business (like D'Angelico and De'Merle did back in the days when old guys like me played them).

Good luck.

I'm a EB super slinky man. When I bought my first Strat I was using Super Bullets. One day while changing strings I noticed some Fret wear that I thought was unusual for a 2 year old guitar. I took it to my dealer and he said that was normal but I might want to switch to a different string. Apparently The super bullets have a Stainless Steel core which makes them last longer but is also harder on your frets.

I haven't read all of the posts here so if I add anything terribly redundant, please forgive me.

Strings, like the guitar or amp, are a personal taste and preference thing. While I don't wish to sound rude, asking "which is better" on a public forum such as this is akin to asking, "which is better...a Ford or a Chevy?" and the answer of course is neither! It simply depends on what you prefer. Personally I use GHS Boomers almost exclusively on my electrics. I used Slinky's for a few years when I first started playing...mainly because that was all the small music store I used to frequent would carry. I had tried GHS Boomers when they first came out because at the time they were "tremolo reinforced" and as I was playing my Kramer by that time, it seemed like they were worth a try. While this could just be in my mind...and after 20 years, there are a lot of dead brain cells there..., it seemed to me that the Boomers had better longevity than the Slinkys...they stayed in tune better and didn't rust out as quickly but still sounded pretty similar. This was of course, 20 odd years ago and as I said, a lot more gray matter in the brain now but that could have changed since then.

Now bullets do have one very small advantage...the reason they are recommended for Strats is that they have a "bullet" end on them where the string seats in the bridge (as apposed to a ball end or little brass eyelet found on most other brands of strings). "In theory" these bullets are supposed to seat better in a Strat trem block thus giving you better tuning stability. I supposed if you are really heavy handed with the trem, this might be true but I think that most folks would agree that a good and proper setup will do more for the tuning on a Strat than any brand of strings ever will. Again here I would say that it's really a personal choice...don't worry that Bullet's are "recommended for Strats"...they're Fender strings and of course Fender is going to recommend them for their own instruments :D.

Now I would like to make one other comment here as well. Since you bought a Clapton Sig Series and since there's been some talk about which strings Clapton himself uses, while this should be obvious, please know that using a Clapton Strat, and Clapton's Strings and even Clapton's amp is NOT going to make you sound like Clapton! You could play on Clapton's personal gear, setup by Clapton himself and you're still not going to sound like Clapton! Eric Clapton sounds like Eric Clapton because he -IS- Eric Clapton! He could play a $100 Squire Bullet thru a Crate Practice amp and he would still sound like Eric Clapton. The greatest majority if your personal sound comes from you...not the brand or model of any piece of gear you are playing.

So that said, in regards to strings my suggestion would be to try them all and find out what you like best! You may discover that something like D'Darios or Elixers or something else are the "right" strings for you.

Just my $.02 worth...don't spend it all in one place!
Jim

I always liked bullets, but I have been using EBs lately since I had a bunch left over when I sold my Les Paul and have been very happy with them as well. I think it's a toss up. Go for the ones on sale ;)

Neither string man. Neither company even makes the strings.
If you want real quality go with d'addario, or even ghs. Both of these companies make their own strings.

Peace

Slinkys are too bright for me. I like GHS Nickel Rockers or Burnished sets. I used bullets back when they 1st came out (70s?). They were fine, too.
