Does anybody know what's the best way to lower the bridge until it rests on the body, but that I can still use the tremolo?

It you have the vintage (6 screw) tremelo on your guitar, you can tighten up the claw in the back of the guitar and pull it back, or add more springs. You will have to re-intonate the guitar after doing this. You will only be able to dive down and not pull up at that point.

If you have a different type of tremelo, it is a little different.

Fender recommends about an eight of an inch gap at the point where the butt of the trem lifts. Why flatten it? If you're using the bar you won't be able to pull. And you will have to reintonate.

Mine is currently flat ... I may go do a new setup and get that back to specs. I have a Floyd Rose on my ESP, but i am not interested in pulling up on it - just basic dive then come back in tune.

Jefferson_One,

What color is your ESP LTD. Mine is a Green Maple top. It has the Floyd Rose Tremelo on it too. I can pull my Floyd all the way up and push all the way down and it snaps back to being in tune every time (that is after the strings stretch properly). I use it for when I play Metal with a lot of dives. Otherwise I just play my Fender.

Mine is kind of a chocolate/greenish quilt top ... I was hearing some hum & muddiness tonight while listening closely to my Fender with the single coils then I pulled out my Squire with single coils and same thing. Got the ESP out with the EMG humbuckers and that was the difference ... I hadn't thought much about the sound difference but I was paying more attention tonight I guess. Here's a pic:

Nice ESP. There usually is a hum of sorts on a Stratocaster, part of their charm.
