Hi MKFETHI, welcome to the Forum.

Back in the day Sultans of Swing was the first number I ever learned. I've been playing it ever since, 'bout 25 - 28 years now...

Few years ago I picked up Lick Library's Dire Straits DVD, just to see if I was doing everything right (we used to play it more or less note for note and then stick a long solo on the end). Lo and behold, it turned out there were a couple of licks I'd learned wrong at the outset and been playing wrongly ever since.

Still, I like my way better! :D

Anyhow. Find that DVD at:

http://www.licklibrary.com/store/jamie- ... -2-dvd-set

or at a seller near you. Lick Library do some other Knopfler/Straits material too.

Cheers - C

Very suprised to read on the Knopfler blog site about his planned ventures into hallucinogens. After being through that phase in my youth and finding nothing of value therein, im flabbergasted that knopfler a doctor, and a one time maths teacher is considering such a thing. However he dresses it up as a exploration into his spiritual side why does he have to publish and in some way promote his usages of 'herbal relief'. Herbal/natural or not hallucinogens alter the way your mind works and therefore a herbal hallucinogen has as much power to destroy your life as a manufactured one. In Fact i've seen more casualties of mushrooms than i ever did of lsd or pcp.

I really hope he doesnt go too far down this road, i'd hate to lose another great the same way we lost greeny for all those years.

Start by putting the amp on the clean channel and putting the switch of your strat in the position between the bridge and middle pickup, this way you'll start the right way.

Most important part of nailing his tone is to wear the headband. Don't know where you'll get one nowadays though. :P

Good grief, that's a bit of a shocker, at his time of life.

I can't find it, Niki. Care to post a link?

Quite shocked myself. I thought he'd of known better. He must of been hanging around with sting or something.

... :o

Is it for real? Is this really written by Mark Knopfler? What the heck is all this acia berry stuff?

The whole thing is totally bizarre. I must admit I've not trawled the whole site but so far I'm not seeing anything there to suggest this is written by a guitarist...?

More questions than answers...
