I received a new pick guard in the mail today, and it is warped like a potato chip. A 3/4 inch bow from the edge to the belly, and the holes are not lining up with the holes in the guitar. The holes are about a half a hole off in a couple spots. My idea is to dunk the pick guard in super hot water for a minute, and remove and flatten it out with a weight, and let cool. Any other suggestions or is there a right way to correct this issue? Thanks, BF

You can try that or see if screwing the screws at the corners first. I would try it before putting all the hardware in first. I would try this pattern:

1. Screw by the upper neck
2. By the tone nob
3. by the back of the tremelo
4. by the corner of the lower horn.

The rest of them can go in any order in a diagonal pattern.

If the holes do not line up after the first 4 screws are in, I would return it.

I agree with rkreisher's suggestion of trying to attach it without getting it wet. It seems to me that someone on this forum said that they had a pickguard shrink when they soaked it in water.

I thought about the Ironing board,, :D ,,boiling water did the trick, it is closer to flat now, and it took some manual bending, but it will work now. The foil did float off the back, I decided to remove the glue off the back with lacquer thinner, what a mess I made with that. Thinner got on the front side and ruined the finish. I am not happy with that. :x What a rip off to pay $30 for 50 cents worth of plastic, and have it in that condition. I would have sent it back but getting it here from the vendor was a saga in it's self. Anyway, thanks for your input and time, I'll get a picture up soon. BF

Return it, tell them its damaged and have them replace it. Why mess around with a new pick guard when it does not fit properly.

It looks to me like your tables bent  JK

I use a variation of Rkreishers advice everytime i remove a scratchplate. My guitars have 50's plates which always seem to bow because their thin.
