Anyone tried swaping SCNs on AmDX for any other pups.I'm sure it would be a tough job with the S1 switching & wiring.Just curious!

I have the Am Dlx but at the moment i'm sticking to it and see how it goes as there's a character to it that i like but cant really pin it down yet....as for the wiring i did take look at it before and its not that hard as you think....same 3 wire pickup config.
Take a look at the schematics in the Support/Wiring Diagrams..... :D

I have never personally tried a Lace Sensor but browsing thru the net it seems like normal 3 conductor pickup to me.....should be no issue. But the phasing out problem could arise... :D

I had my HSS American Deluxe pickups changed with Kinmans (SSS). I did not do the work myself, but the S1 switch is gone (it could not be used anymore I guess).

It is really unfortunate that your S1 switch is inoperable after the pickup changed.I'm not familiar with the Kinmans pickup but i suggest you bring back the guitar to the Tech who did it and ask him to rectify. Why?
Recently i bought the S1 switch with its volume knob and tone pots from eBay.I had 2 SCN's pickup ( neck and middle) i bought from a friend and a Tone Zone S.I downloaded the wiring diagram for the Am Dlx Stratocaster SSS (the HSS and SSS Am Dlx has different wiring, so observe carefully) and faithfully wired it to a pickguard.I wanted to achieve a '57 Hot Rod config with the S1 switching.
And the results....exactly as i had imagined great sounding and no issues as so whatever.
Like i mentioned in my earlier post, i'm not familiar with the Lace nor the Kinmans but if it is a 3 wire pickup conductor then it should not pose a problem .

@Ronniefrown :: i suggest you either opened up and checked the wiring with the diagram made available here or ask the Tech that soldered the pickup to check again. Here below are the direct link to the HSS ans SSS Am Dlx Strat:

- Am Dlx Stratocaster HSS 0101500
- Am Dlx Stratocaster SSS 0101200

I appreciate your help, but I am so happy with the way the guitar sounds now that I don't want to alter anything :) It's just perfect, and I didn't use the S1 while I had it anyway.
I wasn't looking to buy a Deluxe, let alone an HSS one, but when I heard this guitar I was mesmerized and I just had to buy it an modify it into a classic SSS strat. It's now SSS with Kinmans, the tremolo is blocked and it has a white pickguard instead of the tortoise one (the body color is amber).

I have a 2004 American Deluxe with the S1 and was never really happy with the pickups. I found them muddy and dull.
I found a local luthier who put a custom set of handwound pickups in that he made for me. They essentially have the same specs as a late 1950's Strat. The S1 switch is wired now so that when the selector switch is in the #1 position and the switch is depressed the neck and bridge pickups are on and when the selector switch is in the #2 position all three pickups are on. It certainly changed the sound of the guitar dramatically.

Well, I guess I cant really call it a change, but my AM Deluxe was a Special run for Musicians Friend, and it has Vintage Noiseless PU's instead of the SCN's. I think they sound great, and the S-1 system works just fine
