I am currently deciding on buying a new strat. ive been playing for 4 years now and looking for something decent that will last me a long time. its between two strats for me:american standard HSS (Sienna Sunburst Maple) and an american deluxe with the tone button.
both sound and feel great for me but i dont know which one to pick. i play rock/classic rock.
a bit of help choosing?

GO FENDER! :D

I always urge people in your position to play one of the Vintage Reissues. A lot of stores don't carry them so many have never even experienced the difference- nothing against the new school Strats but when I first played one I immediately fell in love.

I really don't think that you can go wrong with any of them but if you are really into classic rock you should definitely give one of these a shot.

When you say Tone Button, I assume you mean the S-1 switch?

It really does add alot of versatility. More important though, which of those guitars sound, feel and smell good to you?

The only thing I dont like about the deluxe is the roller nut..... :) the Standard HSS sounds nice and the humbucker will do well for rock riffs

although im a huge fan of the lsr nut, the HSS is the only deluxe that comes with it..... my Vneck doesnt and according to pics the SSS Cneck doesnt either. All in all the deluxe is freaking sweet.

Dude, if you can respond, how do you like the V-neck? I am also at odds between the Deluxe and the HSS but am not sure about the neck issue. Perhaps I have not sampled enough examples as I have found the C-neck to be quite large.

binky

its like cheating on your girlfriend lol no no no just kidding. its really different, i mean, to me it feels chunky but smaller???? i can't explain it. though i can see why more people prefer the C neck. i have 2 American Strats with the C neck and the Deluxe with the V. to tell you the truth, i prefer the C Shape BUT love switching it up with the V, its a huge difference. the only way to tell would be to try one out because everyones hands are different. As for comparing... all my guitars are completely different. Can't help you out there. I have a 96 Strat Plus (Lace Sensor) 07 Deluxe V Neck (SCN) and an 08 Am Std with the HSS configuration. The variables between them are digustingly vast.

good luck

I've got one of each and love them both. Either way you go, between the two, you will have a quality axe bro. 8) Mike

If you are looking for a guitar to cover a wide range of sounds and tones, an HSS Strat is hard to beat. It can have the bridge humbucker tone, with a nice bell-like tone and a nice quack, all in the same instrument.
If you love the classic Fender Strat tone, it has gotta be an SSS Strat. The classic tones are unmistakable. I own several different Strats with stock pickups and aftermarket pups too, and they all sound different. Find one , or two, or fourteen!!! You can never have too many Fenders!!! Remember, it is easier to change the way a guitar sounds to your ears than the way it feels in your hands.

The Am Dlx that I got is by far the finest production Strat I've ever played, I love the sound of the SCN's. Even with the single coils, I can get a nice fat hummer sound with the S-1 engaged. And... no roller nut 8)

i think you should have a play with em, chek all the pickup positions myabe even bring in the amp your gonna use em with and test them out with it, if price is not an issue i would go with a reissue strat because you can fin one perfect for your style, and there more unique if you ask me :)
