There are practically no left handed guitars out there in the market. Isn't that some kind of discrimination. Who knows Fender and other guitar companies may be holding the next Jimi Hendrix back.

That didnt held the first Hendrix back. I guess if I was left handed I would just reverse right handed guitars instead of having to narrow my choice to 1% of what's out there. Easier said than done I guess.

Although I must say I had a good deal on mex a few months and that was a left handed, I set it for righty and it took some time to get used to but I really like it now. It's a different sound too.

Yeah it is a whole lot easier said than done i have a left handed mim standard and a righthanded deluxe player's strats and it is extremely hard to reach higher than like the 18yh fret and it feels awkward when you are sitting down playing. Would it be to hard for fender to do, i mean just charge like fifty dollars more for lefthanded versions.

There's always the custom shop, but that might be a little more than an extra $50 :)

The positive is that you are not looking for a resonator...

A resonator is an acoustic guitar that produces a louder sound with the use of metal cone(s). The body is sometimes made of wood or metal. You cannot reverse those for lefty because the cones are setup for right handed players. Very few of those are available for lefties. Look up Dobro or National on google and you will understand. Having one custom made usually cost a first born.

It's the generic name for a Dobro. Dobro is a name owned by Gibson. It's a resonator guitar played horizontally with a slide. It has a special metal soundboard arrangement with cones. Used extensively in bluegrass music, where the Dobro player is, "last hired, first fired."

There are a lot of left-handed models, by various brands. They're not going to make it 50/50 and make a ton of left-handed guitar when only 10% of the population is left-handed. Waste of money when they have models already, and custom orders can always be made.

THey don't need to make it 50/50 make all the models in left handed versions but just make 1 lefthanded for every 10 righthanded

Well, it's all about demand. If a ton of people were calling Fender about it, they'd make more. They'll make more if they knew they'd sell them, otherwise it's a waste of money on their end.

I hear people complaining about relic guitars. But there are far more people requesting those and buying those, that's why they made the whole Road Worn line.

Get more lefties together and tell them you'll all buy more guitars. They'll sure make them. But they're not going to make much more than they can sell. Why would they?

Maybe somebody can clue me in...

I don't understand how being left handed would affect which way one first picks up a guitar. I don't think that one of your hands is better suited for picking/strumming or fretting. In fact- being right handed one would think that the prominent hand would be doing the more complicated work (the fretting) so along that line of thinking I should have been better suited to play a left handed guitar.

This is just my opinion- and it has been something that I've been thinking about for a while so if anyone has any evidence to the contrary it is welcomed.

Have you ever seen a left handed Flute, or Saxaphone? Or how about a left handed Cello? Every single Violin Bow in any given Orchestra are sawing in the same direction.

When first staring out, all your fretting hand has to do is clamp down on a chord and wait for the picking hand to try an strum. It's easier to get your strong hand to strum and your weak hand to grab, so it's first instinct to adjust the mechanics of the situation to make it easier on ourselves. Soon as your weak hand starts trying to run through scales, it starts to feel like maybe this is backwards.

Is the fretting the more complex work though?

Strum patterns and finger picking variations are easier with your dominant hand.

As a lefty who plays right handed, I think my left hand work is fine, but I wonder if i would have better control and maybe speed if i didn't strum/finger pick with my right hand?
