Hello all,

I would like to hear some opinions on right (picking) hand placement. Both in general and on a strat. I have been playing nothing but an acoustic for the last year and have recently started playing a strat which has made me more concious of what I was doing with my picking hand. I guess I am what you would call a "floater". That is, I don't really anchor my hand to anything. I know a lot of guys use their pinky as an anchor on the pick guard and others rest the heel of their hand on the bridge. Anyway, to get to the point, since I have been experimenting, I wondered if it is worth my while to change my style so that I anchor my hand in some fashion. Have others gone through this change and has it been worth it?

On a Strat, some people find themselves hitting the volumn control or the pickup switch when they play. So you`ll have to adjust your hand position accordingly.

I am a "floater" too. Though my hand hangs normnally between the neck and middle pups.

I don't pay too much attention to my hand placement. Just do whatever's comfortable to you.

I palm mute a lot when I play. My hand placement is either on or near the saddles and I go as far up as the bridge pickup. That usually puts my pick either before the middle pup or past the middle pup (the sweet spot for pick harmonics). :)
