Presently I own a Gibson Les Paul and looking to buy a second guitar. I play blues and classic rock. I have an opportunity to buy a Gibson ES 335 at a good price, but I am hesitant that I am just duplicating what I already have.

I like a Fender American Strat, American Deluxe or an Clapton Strat. I have played Clapton Strat and like the sound and action.

I will order from Sweetwater when I figure out which one.

Any suggestions will be helpfull.

Sounds like you already have it figured out.

You said good price on the 335, could you possibly resale it to turn a profit? That would be something to think about.

Thanks for the the advice... however, I am looking to buy for my use. Even with a good price on a ES 335, I do not want to duplicate the Gibson Sound.

I pretty sure I want to go with the Fender. Now, which one?

Strat, American deluxe, "V neck" S-1 switching system, You will occasionaly miss that Les Paul sound, the S-1 switch helps to restore that tone somewhat.
not completely however, but if you find your self needing the Paul humbucker feel ......you can only play one guitar at a time..... push the switch and there it is. I love mine,

Vic

Vic,

I like your advice. Since I have been reading these strat forums, never have I seen any vote for a Clapton strat vs an American deluxe.

Looks like, for the money, the Ameican Deluxe is the best buy.
