OK...a month ago or so I got an 08 Am Strat, new in box with a PRRI amp. The combo was PERFECT. No issues, sounded amazing, etc. Well, right now that guitar and amp is in another state and I have been wanting to get a 2nd PRRI and Strat so I ordered another set - same thing, 08 Am Standard and PRRI. Well, this PRRI arrived new in box but didnt work. Took out some 12AX7's and replaced them but amp had some hiss and hum, and the reverb had a buzz/hum when turned up.

Anyway, I plug in the new strat and I am getting buzzing in all pickup selections. Even 2 and 4, but 2 and 4 go away when I touch strings. My other Strat and PRRI are actually pretty silent. I didnt get any of the 60 cycle hum from that set at all believe it or not. Maybe SLIGHT but not noticable while playing or during silent moments.

So my question is, do you guys think this is a guitar issue or amp issue? I have the amp set for exchange but its driving me nuts now with the guitar buzzing so loud. If i turn the amp to 4 the buzz is VERY loud with the guitar plugged in. When I unplug I just hear the amp hiss.

Any ideas?

You said the guitar and amp were in another state - what moved, you or the musical equipment?
Is this a different room? Check the wiring. Is it grounded properly? Different/increased sources of induction - lighting, computers, TV's, etc?

Only thing my pea brain can come up with.

I took my other set to another house where I sometimes stay. This new set is in the same house/room that the others were and they were dead quiet. I don't get it. Seeking that the amp had the tube issues and buzz hum issues to start with I am hoping its the amp but if not, I will also have to send back the guitar for a swap.

this may sound funny but when we used to jam at one of my mates
houses i used to get all sorts of weird noises from my amp then eventually
i found out why there was a television mast a couple of miles from his house
it could just be some kind of electrical interferance try moving to another
room in your house :)

I swapped cords and it cut it in half. I then took out one more tube that was rattling BAD and swapped it with a NOS GE from my home stereo amp. Buzz went away. Now its just the normal hum associated with single coils. This amp arrived with 4 bad tubes and I have a mish mosh of 12AX7's in there. One GE NOS, ONE Electro Harmonix, One Groove tube 12AT7 and one Chinese branded 12AX7. This was a new inbox amp. Must have been tossed around by UPS or something!

I always keep some spare tubes just for that reason. Bad tubes can cause a variety of issues. Glad you solved the problem!
