Should the bar give any resistance, when installing. Everytime I start I feel I am going to strip the threads, it there a trick. It is a new SRV strat, do not want to screw it up, no pun intended.

You may have to hold the bar at a slight angle to screw it in. Just go easy and you should feel the threads grab.

You just put the shaft down into the hole and turn clockwise. It will spin freely for a while and then the end of the shaft will bump into a spring that's down there. As you screw it in against the spring you'll quickly reach a point where the bar turns freely but will stay in any position you put it. If you are genuinely reaching a point where the bar is fully screwed in, you probably don't have a spring down there. Dealers have them, and you should have received one with a new guitar. But they do have a tendency to fall out, which is why a new guitar usually comes with a little tape over the hole.

How much resistance are you talking about? Like getting tight? After how many turns? It should turn very easily for a bunch of turns before it starts feeling tight.

Put is in the hole at a slight angle. (OMG that first sentence sounds nasty) Make sure that the little spring is not in the way (it should be in the hole, not caught on the threads). If you don't have a little spring, don't sweat it. As soon as you feel metal to metal, turn slowly until the threads catch. Turn clockwise until you meet resistance again, then stop.

Since we're talking about trem bars, how do I get the bar out of my American Special? I pushed the bar in until it locked into place, but I can't figure out how to get it out. It must be child proof...
