Big Jay,

Let us know how it plays/sounds once assembled. Sounds like good parts to me. Not to mention a good learning experience putting it together. Have fun.

Thanks, guys. Im pretty excited to see how it works.

I'll spend quite a bit of time fine tuning it. I think cvel made a lot of sense suggesting that much of the trouble people have with their guitars and playability comes from in improper set up, or maybe no set up at all. I intend to really mess around with it to see how different variations make it play.

Any suggestions or advice on adjustments (neck/pups/etc) would be great.

all my guitars are set up to low action.
its smooth like butter. some people like there
set up to a higher action once again it all comes down
to what you like.

action refers to the height of the strings to the fretboard...you can adjust this in the saddles and in the neck relief. hope that helps... also, most say you lose tone/sustain having your action set too low.

other than the obvious bigjay (tone, sustain, bending and buzzing) i think the only other reason a higher action would be an advantage, would be in slide playing... i don't mean lap style but the good ole slide on the ring finger. also, i dont think there is a norm when choosing high or low. just preference, my dear friend.

ps. i knew that you knew what action was cause there is no way someone played for 15 years and didnt adjust this sorta thing, even by mistake. lol...

Well, remember that I have played the same guitar for the same 15 years. I can honestly say that I have never adjusted anything related to the action. I've never changed anything but the string gauge. Seriously!!!!.

Wow!! if it ain't broke, don't fix it.. as they say

But to your point, I guess I understood what "action" is concept but wasnt exactly sure by definition. Could action describe more than string height? Does the curviture of the neck imply action? How about tremolo adjustments?

I just wasnt sure about the definition. Thanks though.

now i could be wrong but when refering to strings/fretboard, i think "action" is just a slang term for "string height".

hey big jay, thankfully you made me delve deep into this "action"

i will take this one step further because the book " Totally Guiter The Definitive Guide" explains it like this.

What is Action?

For many players the "action" of a guitar is the height of the strings above the frets, typically measured from the top of the 12th fret to the underside of the outer two strings: the low E and the high e. But only if it were that simple. In fact action is a general term used to describe the comination of the entire playing "feel" of the guitar. You'll hear comments like "this guitar has really low action or " the action is really high on this one" and the reasons are not just to do with the physical distance of the strings from the frets. Neck condition is crucial: the neck's straightness and relief, the fingerboard radius in relation to the bridge saddle radius, and the nut and even fret height all contribute to the player's perception of action.....

go pick up this book... its the very best
