Im with you, Ceri. I would prefer simple and friendly communication. We all benefit and nobody loses.

Im sure that guy is a very nice, informed and respected poster. I hope I can be just as valuable. I would love nothing more than to have many great conversations with him.

However, if you go back to Pfops first comment on this thread, he basically chastized me for asking questions about the very differences between these necks that you have pointed to. He even commented to another poster that he disliked "that kind of reasoning" or something to that affect, implying that I was somehow doing something inappropriate or ignorant or uninteligent. I was a little offended, especially considering his comments were irrelevent to the thread and not asked for. I think its pretty clear that I did not offer an opinion about anything. I was asking for opinions on necks to avoid making a mistake on my new partsocaster.

I realize that there is some sort of previous history on these boards, some sort of heated debate about Hwy1s and what ever. I also know that there are some people to instigate conflict on boards like these. That's not me. Im trying to build a very nice Strat and would love everyones experience and opinions. That's all.

Further, I dont hold grudges. I look forward to my next conversation with him and everybody.

Thanks for your input and consideration.

the conflict is finaly over!

BJ, that was an unfortunate experience for me and the first. We can surely be friends. The highway one does have a "fast and smooth playing neck" and would enhance your build. Good luck on your project! 8)

I don't quite understand the tone of that post but all is good on my end. That's all I have to say on the subject. Enjoy your build and I would love to see the completed project. Cheers mate!

As I've said, Im trying to assemble a nice Strat. I could buy one outright, but that's sort of boring. I want to educate myself to a point where I can really know how the instrument works, repair it, discuss it intelligently, maximize my investment dollars as well as my playing satisfaction.

Hows that for a marketing pitch????

I'd like to build a truly special guitar, but Im not a professional and I dont think I get much return by sparing no expense. So Im trying to learn everything I can about the individual components so I can make the smartest combination for me. Im not afraid to spend some money, but a true Custom Shop work of art is way beyond me.

Here is what I went with.

1) Practically NOS 1999 AmStd tobacco sunburst body, 2-pt trem. Its alder, but while I'd prefer ash, this body is one piece. Its 4.6 lbs and pretty flawless. Besides finish and maybe the "contour heel", I dont see a major difference, or benefit, of the AmDlx body.
2) I got a steal on brand new Custom Shop 69 RI pups. I didnt want to compromise on pickups. Nuf said. I opted for the standard CTS pots though.
3) Schaller locking tuners.
4) AmDlx tremolo, with stainless bridges and block.
5) 3 ply parchment, aged knobs, blah blah blah. and finally
6) I bought the 2008 Hwy1 neck, and you know a little bit of that story. I've decided its the same neck as the AmStd and AmDlx necks, except without many of the bells and whistles. Because Im not a pro, and not a great player, I decided the added features wont make me a better player. So I dont need them and would prefer to save the money.

Some might say that I settled on inferior parts, but I have about $600 into this guitar and I'd estimate its 90% of the AmStd and 85% of the AmDlx for about 60% and 50% of the price. It will sound amazing , especially through my 1974 Fender Bandmaster Reverb/Marshall 2x12 combo and I'll always be able to sell it for more than I paid.

Now Im going to start a band.

What do you think? I'd love some feedback.

sounds like a winner. also the bells and whistles are just that
means nothing to most of us. the neck you are using is perfect.
