Hello fenderfriends.

Well, I have a big deal, I'm torn between 2 sexy stratocasters ( yes they are ).
¤ Classic Player 60's
¤ Highway One (Upgrade) S/S/S

Firstly, I don't have a great guitar level but a good motivation, I tell you that because I think I don't have a so good experience to chose alone between 2 guitars if I have both in hands.
Nevertheless you could guide me in order to make my choice. To do that I would like you to speak about quality and finitions. One is a low US made and the other is one of best mex production.
I would like a great guitar to remplace my cort x2, and I want it with a great quality, I want for my money ! :P. In future, I imagine I could change pick-ups, so I don't want to waste money in bad guitar.

Would you help me ?

Friendly, and happy new year,

Romain

I like the Classic Player 60's and now is a good time to get them because it look as though they my be going up as much as 100. each GC is putting the on the net for 799. but still has some for 699. that I am guessing are last years model.

Hi Roma!n, welcome to the Forum.

You'll have no shortage of people here speaking up for the Highway-1, and it is a very nice guitar at the price.

I'll put in a word for the Classic Player - though I don't own one. I was chatting to the owner of a well respected guitar shop and he told me he sells more Classic Players than any other Fender guitar in the catalog, MIM or MIA. He also felt that bangs per buck it was unbeatable value, if you like the specs.

I'd take a look at the bridge in particular, if I were you. That's an important difference. Also, the CP has a flatter 12 inch radius neck which many (including Eric Johnson) would think of as a very useful feature, against the HWY-1's perfectly good 9.5 inch radius. On the other hand, the HWY-1 has slightly fatter frets, which many like.

If you need 22 frets you must get the HWY-1. And of course it has a nitro finish...

Cheers - C

Hi,

I just went through the process of getting my first strat and faced similar decisions. I started out with the idea that I HAD to get an American Standard. I played some of the ones on the wall at GC and really liked them. Just for fun I also checked out the other Fender models and discovered that I liked the CP 60 much better than the AM Standard! The tone of the 69 pickups is really special and the fit/finish was the same level of quality as the AM Standard (ignoring the nitro finish on the AM Standard) I also tried the Hwy 1 but did not like it because the neck just didn't feel right to me. Maybe it is the bigger frets on the Hwy 1, I don't know. It just didn't feel good.

In the end, I walked out of the store with the CP 60 that was on the wall. This brings me to another point. If at all possible, buy a specific guitar that you have played and liked. Each guitar is different and even master builders have some days that are better than others.

So my advice is go to a shop with a good selection of strats that you can play. Then play everything that you can aford ignoring what you THINK you want. Chances are that one of the guitars will really stand out and that is the one you should buy.

Good luck.
