I have read that most newer strat bodies are configured to fit a HB-S-HB setups and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is true?

The one I was looking into was a MIM strat that is a couple years old...I want to make it a bit of a project if I buy it and try a 2 HB config on a strat, but I don't know if I am confident enough in my abilities to take a chisel to the body.

Hi Nicholsoni: most (all?) modern American Strat bodies are routed HSH - apart from some reissue and artist models.

I know for sure that many MIMs have that exact same CNC route, and someone else posted that in fact it is likewise standard these days in the Mexican line.

If you are buying on Ebay I'd have thought it perfectly reasonable to ask the seller to lift the 'guard a moment for a quick look just to be totally certain, though.

Cheers - C

I was actually wondering the same thing. I heard the new Tele's have that feature, and if my 2006 MIM has it, I'll be one happy guy.

Just for your info, the 2003 Classic series 50's Strat I just got has got an SSS rout in the body, so not ALL MIM Strat bodies are HSH compatible. Just thought youd like to know.

Hi paisley strat. But that's a reissue, so conforms to the SSS route of guitars of the period.

I believe these days MIAs and MIMs all have the HSH route under the pickguard unless they are reissue or artist models.

But as always I stand to be corrected.

Is there anything I should be concerned about if I'm going to take the pickguard off? I've never done it before, and the last thing I want to do is something stupid like warp the guard if I don't screw it back in the right way.

We are getting closer to that ol' "swimming pool" rout all the time.

Fender called it "Universal Routing" the last time out. It sure made changing pickup configurations easy.

The "tone wood" crown hated it though.
