Do any of you out there have one in your strat? I've never been a big HB fan but I'm bored with my current set up and thinking of puting a lil 59'er in the neck.

Any thoughts?

Id just put new pickups in it as opposed to a humbucker in the neck. Or, for real short money, put in a toggle switch turns on your bridge pup, so you can play it with the neck or all 3 at the same time. I put one in a few weeks ago, and i dont know why i didnt put it in a long time ago. Plus its short money, about $3 for the switch, and easy to install if you can solder.

As a player of other guitars in addition to a strat, I've always wondered why have a HB in the bridge position. I think HB in the neck and single coil in the bridge would be ideal. That being said, I much prefer playing on neck pickups, just like the sound I guess, HB or single coil.

I think it's a cool idea, but I've always been an experimentalist.

I would like to wire up a switch for my neck pickup so I can use it with the other two at will. I want to use a push-pull pot instead of using a toggle switch and drilling a new hole. Any idea where I can get a wiring diagram to do that???

why put a humbucker in the neck position?
why not?

If you like the idea, do it. Your going to be hard pressed to get full on les paul neck muddy cream, but you will be nearer to it than a singlecoil is going to give you.
I can see why its not a popular mod. I dont favour strat neck position much and always tend to be in the bridge/mid position. But i'd never want a strat without the traditional neck pickup sound.
If i was going to do it id go for the little59 or dimarzio paf that the 59 is based on, and coiltap it.

I'm thinking the lil 59 and going to coil tap. Plus if I don't like it I can send it back.

I have a humbucker in the bridge on all my guitars.. I am just more into the humbucker in the bridge .......I have had a single coil in there when I bought my first strat but I just never used it so I put a humbucker in there and I am happy with it ... but thats just me :)

Ya know, I bought a sss strat, and I find most of the sounds I really like in the neck position. For classic rock sounds, the bridge sounds pretty good, but there is the hum under distortion. I think a humbucker with alnico magnets there may be perfect. I'm surprized the hss is not more popular. While I love the sss setup, because I have always had double humbucking guitars, I am thinking I would not miss the single in the bridge

Funny that you mention the HB in the neck as I have been thinking of it for some time..just have not been sold on what I want to put in there yet… Seymour Duncan now makes a Pearly Gates Humbucker in a single coil size for strats…I think as soon as there is some extra money laying around I will take one of my strats and go all Humbuckers………..Neck = Pearly Gates Humbucker / middle = Dimarzio Chopper (single coil sized HB) / Bridge = Dimarzio Super Distortion (single coil sized HB)….Just to get a bit different sound for heavier stuff………what ya think??????
