This has probably been discussed a lot here, but I'm new so cut me a little slack, OK. :-)
I'm thinking about replacing the pickups in my Strat. I would like to get a little hotter sound than I am getting out of the active EMG's I've got in it now. (They were replaced by the guy I bought the guitar from.)
These seem a little bland for my taste. They are very quiet, but don't have that nice warmth that original Strat pickups have.
I'm thinking about the Texas Specials, or something in that line.
Any ideas?

In my opinion the Texas Special is a hot pickup that was designed to be played with big clean amps (like the Twin). So, it's not a typical 'hot pickup' as you would imagine it to be. I have never gotten a good sound from them when playing with a moderate to high level of gain (like my Marshall). They are very bright and almost harsh in that situation.

I would advise trying either the Vintage Noiseless Hot pickups or the Custom Shop '69s. I have a pretty good amount of experience with both and both have done excellently. The Custom Shop '69s are a little more organic and the Vintage Noiseless are going to give you a little more gain.

I'm getting Texas Specials put in my Squier Strat now. When I get it back I'll let you know how I like them. In my MIM Strat I have Vintage Noiseless pickups. I don't know if they're the same kind that cwpainter is talking about though. They have a real nice tone, but I don't know if I'd describe them as warm. They have more of a classic Strat tone, which I guess is best described as what you hear in recordings of 50s and 60s Strats.

I was talking about these: http://www.fender.com/products//search. ... 0992105000

Those are about as hot and smooth as you are going to get without going active.

Yes, mine are a different kind then. I have Vintage Noiseless pickups, not Hot Noiseless pickups. So I guess my last post is pretty much irrelevant.
