I see absolutely nothing wrong , dangerous nor ego building about posting a picture of yours or my guitar on this forum! That's paranoid! And it is not childish either.
"and that's all I have to say bout that!" Cheers and Good Day Mate!

Nothing at all wrong with showing off your gear. How many guitar playing friends call eachother when they get something new and say 'you wanna come and play this!'. Its not an ego thing at all. Tim Allen would assure us its more male bonding than ego.

" Mark VI" models to my recollection, but here's something interesting. That same guitar shows up on my bench several times in the mid 70's, but it's made by a company called EKO. Same basic design but made in Italy, and truthfully, not so good :( It was really tough to play, and the action was incorrigable. Some guys set those up for open tuning and played slide on them. The PU's were loud enough, but very bright, and almost an "ice pick through the head" effect to them. The Vox models had smoother PU's and more pleasing.

Hi Pete,

Yes, I did know that Eko was subcontracted to make those guitars for export to the USA. This was because Vox Ltd. was a small company that could in no way meet the sudden demand for their instruments when the Beatles meteoric rise to fame, put them on the spot. The appearances of all the Vox guitars made by Eko were still the same, but the necks are smaller and thinner, and I can't be sure about the comparison of the pickups. One thing I can tell you about mine, The neck and middle pickup are very warm and smooth, warmer than any Fender single coil in fact. It's a totally different sound, but the bridge pickup is just as you describe...the Ice Pick in the forhead type of sound. At high gain settings, this guitar would go microphonic anyway, and does'nt sound very good doing it.

At the same time Eko was contracted to build the USA guitars, the Thomas Organ Co. of Sepulveda, Ca., was contracted to build the amplifiers for the US. They made them all Solid State, yet somehow, they still get the same tones as their tube counterparts.

Funny thing about Eko guitars though, I spent several years going to school in Athens, Greece, and Eko guitars (marketed under their own name), were plentiful and cheap. They were the oddest looking things you ever saw, but they were very playable. I suppose in the early to mid 70's that was cool in a psychofunkadelic sort of way.

Heck Nikininja,

You should'nt have told me that, I might send you a bunch of loot, and ask you to buy me the weirdest Eko guitars you can find and send them to me.
I remember some of those guitars when I was a teen, were so nutty looking, that I used to think that they designed these things while they were drinking too much Sambuca!!!

Wow! You guys are OK! And entertaining as well. Let's try something...

We've all made some contributions here that are pretty good, I think. If we can remember the premise of some of these conversations and apply them to other threads we could really raise the bar, as they say.

It's so refreshing to get away from " This is what I bought...now please, please someone tell me how clever I was..."

We could answer honestly ..." Not as clever as you thought...'

Or these: " I have an Am Standard, but want to upgrade my PU's..what should I use?"

" it came with some, just play the damn thing"

Try this type" I bought a Squier from a friend of mine for $125, and it plays like S*&#. What do I do?

" ask for the $125 back, use it for firewood, and sing Kum bah Ya around it?"

You know I'm sittin' here grinnin' waitin' for hte heat to come! :)

Cheers, Pete

Were about to have a front come through here in southeast Texas. It should be in the brisk 50's tomorrow  . I feel for you guys and gals in colder climates...lived all over the place while I was in the military. The worst cold weather I went through was while stationed in Wonju, Korea. Knee to hip high snow, it was fun until the novelty wore off.

Keflavik, Iceland - One winter storm in particular that blew in off the North Atlantic with 109 mph wind gusts and tore up multiple buildings on base, left the roof to the gym almost 3/4 of a mile away- wind chill was off the charts...

Adak, Alaska -- island in the Aleutians in the Bering strait - all I can say is Brrrr.

That is why I lived in New Orleans until Katrina forced move...
