I have to agree with you ,I was just giving you a heads up. I'd better keep my mouth shut as I don't want to start a MIA versus MIM, if you know what I mean . I'm just glad everyone is happy with their guitars! :)

Well said. I notice that unlike some who post their earthly possessions underneath their names, you do not. You are obviously comfortable with your tools of the trade, and need no reassurances :)

Mr Pete55:
Although I am certainly not a young person, I am a young player - and your point has struck home here. Thank you - I have been schooled today....
I have no idea what bee got in your bonnet and finally set you off to start this thread. I have seen your posts in other threads and thought "this one bears watching" - little pokes here and there with a devilish gleam in your eye and a bit of wry humor (what's that, the list of stuff for your garage sale? - I saw that one....) But thanks for the lesson.

Now then, sir, a question. What is your opinion of the Highway One line?

Thank you TC! I'm very glad you found my humor in all this, but I'm even more impressed that you catch the points. How honest can I be with you?
I can certainly PM you as well, as I'm not going to try and hurt anyone's feelings here at any time. Guitarists are fragile beings, they need love and care and stroking, and I don't always provide that. That should be left for agents, wives, and fans shouldn't it? :)

TC, when I said " how honest can I be...?" that was referrring to what set off the thread. As far as the Highway One is concerned, I've seen some very playable ones, and even owned one. They're a bit crude, maybe a the fit and finish, neck pocket, frets etc., are not quite there, but overall I like them because they're honest. They are basic. But that's OK, because theyr'e priced right, and not pretentious. They say" Here I am. I've got a cheaper finish, some less expensive parts ( but getting stronger)and not set up very well ( which is no big deal), but try me!" It is the entry level American made guitar.

I like that! What I don't really care for is something telling me it's " Classic 50's" and then it's heavy ( full of resin and glue it seems), bad electronics, bad bridges, crappy fit and finish...and worst yet, NOTHING close to feeling and sounding anything like a 50's Stratocaster.

I don't like doing reccomendations, because it just causes this vs. that debate, and it's usually borderline dumb....BUT...if you PM me somehow, I'll give you a nice option :)

Secret: If I lived near you, I'd set that ( option) up for ya ( free) and promise you something , OK? We'd blow away MOST of the Signature guitars that are out there now, and spend less dollars! Shhhh ;)

Pete,
Are you sure you're retired? You sound just like my part time boss and luthier where I work at a little independent music store.

Before I was an employee I was a customer and his advice to me when buying guitars or equipment is so similar to yours that it only confirms my confidence in his advice and taste in merchandise. Thank you for such a great thread. I 've thoroughly enjoyed reading this one...

Dude leave it stock and just buy a nice MIM Strat with the goodies you want.

The '58 in it's original configuration is a very valuable comodity. Even if you never plan on selling it, your heirs could benefit from you not monkeying about with it.

I'm all for modding your guitars but I wouldn't mess around with a 58.

I started laughing out loud when I read the post that started this whole thing.

Well thanks, and I'd like meeting your boss I'm sure. And let's say something nice for all the little Independent stores out there who work really hard for their customers, but at the same time don't get some of the big chain pricing breaks. I think they are amazing!

Thanks, and coming from a professional musician such as yourself, I'll take it under advisement most certainly. Dude?

Well guys, I have fun with this stuff too! The times, that like Harley, I just laugh out loud are too numerous to tell. One time on a forum a guy gave a "recipe" for an epoxy glue that he was reccommending for repairing a set guitar neck. Problem was that the the catalytic part of the mixture (the propellant) was the type used ( in recent past) in gluing certain parts of aluminum aircraft structure, and would have eaten into the wood itself! Very funny from my perspective, but what do you say? If one gives too much advice or disagrees, some young buck is bound to say "Well that's YOUR opinion"

At that point in time, like Harley, it's time to laugh and say to one's self " Go for it buddy, knock your socks off!"

:)

Pete55,

You know, the sad part of what you just said is: Some poor soul not knowing any better, probably tried that recipe, because they took it to heart that it was a good formula.
If I don't know the answer to something, or where to find it, I'm not going to post on it.
But you're right, all too often, egos are butting heads in the forums and someone has to post something so totally out there, that everyone just has to laugh at it.

Now you've made me want to go enroll in the Vox forum and see if I can get any advice on upgrading my old 1967 Phantom VI guitar and beefing up the old 2x12 combo I got with it.
