Someone should try this "fishing" idea again. With all these newbee's on trying to win the gear it would be like dyamite again :D .

I remember that line!

Of course, it's okay to make reverisible mods to a 1958 Strat ...

If a guy's gotta put on some replacement saddles or a replacement tuner (one that fits the same footprint & hole pattern of the original) to be able to play the thing, what's wrong with that? Just keep the old parts safe and sound and the next owner can put them back on if all he wants to do is hang it on the wall.

I just changed the tuners on mine from the Fender/Pings that came with it to the Fender/Schaller locking tuners. I am going to keep the orginals around for later years in case my guitar goes up in value (who cares about that crap anyways). I plan on keeping mine until either I die or it dies. BTW, it did fix that tuner problem I had...no longer goes out of tune when using the tremelo (the G string).

Getting serious here for a sec, stepping outside the spirit of the thread so far;

I agree, repairs to keep it playable are fine. as long as you keep the stock stuff, but, (and this is a big but, this is a king sized Roseanne Barr sized but,) my fear would be damaging a treasure like that while modding. my feeling would be that maybe you don't muck around any more than you absolutely have to. the thing with these guitars is they are rare, and the importance of preserving the piece might actually be above it being a playing guitar.

An excellent thread. Of course I read all the way through before posting, lol.
