I hardly ever used to notice the hum on either of my Strats, but that changed when I put SCNs on my Highway. They are spookily and almost un-naturally quiet. Now of course, with the other Strat, I've started to hear every little snap crackle and pop - alongside the incessant humming of course..

But not a problem once you start playing

Mine is shielded, I use decent cables, but not expensive ones. I have a little hum, but usually not too much. It just depends on where I play. I tried to eliminate it, but it all sounds to sterile. So, I guess I have come to like and expect it a little.

I have always hated 60 cycle hum especialy when my friends would come to jam in the basement that yes has fluorecent lights, and them with there gibsons lol. stairing at me going damm how do you take it.Well I learned early to change my pups to Dimarzio fast tracks on my tele 62 reissue (I know the purist will hate that) but I love how they sound and they sound like me so they went into my other tele and my 72 thinline well we know how that sounds. Plain ans simple you have to have your own tone and that is my main one.And second my strats a Beck, and Clapton have noiseless which I just love and NO i DO NOT think they sound sterile at all I have good ears but my ultra has lace sensors which give of enough that I can live with.I think if you hate the hum you dont have to live with it.I know most if not all of the greats shielded there guitars.I have seen so many famous guitarist axes opened up in magazines and there almost always shielded I wonder why Fender never just did this coming out of the factory? And if the hum was really not a problem they never would of come up with the noiseless.
